Official MAZDASPEED3 Specs: 247hp/280tq!!!

Very interesting comments guys...Seems like some of you are seriously considering dropping your boosted MSP/MP3 for the MS3 platform...I'm not surprised...From what we know so far...It's a damn good package!

i hope they offer some sort of badass paint, like spicy orange mica, or lava orange mica, or some cool s*** like that.

this car will KILL a WRX..as far as STI's and EVO's, consider the price paid....the Mazdaspeed 6 is in the same range as EVO's and STI's so this car will be considerably cheaper.....

Yeah, i will give you that... it should beat a wrx, stock for stock. at least, it should beat my 02 wrx... definitely from a roll, maybe not from a stop. As for th 06 WRX, they've got some balls...(excuse the expression). I bet one of those stock for stock would be very close with the mazdaspeed 3.

I was referring more to the aftermarket... in a front wheel drive car, if you add much more power, you will just spin your tires and have way too much torque steer... I know from the experience of riding in my friend's SRT4, which was pushing out about 450 wheel horsepower... thing couldnt go in a straight line even. With slicks at the track (running around 500 hp) he could only pull a 13.2 because he spun through all of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear... rendering his car pretty much useless for any other type of racing (road coursing, autox, etx). All that power just kills your handling...

I think the stock MS3 will be sweet. dont get me wrong, I will go in and test drive it and consider trading in the WRX (although by that time i should have a full autox setup on the rex, and I wont want to lose that). But i will definitely drive it, as I really like mazdas still.

As for the aftermarket, we will see. I noticed that before I got my WRX, a lot of people bashed on them saying that "why would anyone spend that much for that car when you can boost a MP5 for less?" I thought that way too... but once I got the WRX noticed that you really get what you pay for. in the case of 2006 WRXs, the aftermarket is IMPRESSIVE... it will be hard for any modded MS3 to keep up with a modded 06+ WRX... they are torque-ey as hell and have almost no lag... the aftermarket power wise is awesome... you can get a simple ECU reflash ($600) and bolt on a turboback exaust ($800 or so) with a total install time of 4 hours or so and you will have a WRX pushing out 280 hp and 335 ft-lbs... that is +50 hp over stock and +100 ft. lbs over stock... it will be hard for any other car companies to compete with that.

that much power and torque with AWD is no problem... if you run that much with FWD you will start to see your handling going out the door. I autox a lot now, so handling is really the #1 priority i look for in a car. The p5 was great, but i never got the chance to autox it... i didnt like the 3 when i drove one, but we will see how the ms3 does...

....don't think that mazdaspeed just dropped the 2.3L DISI turbo in it and that's it....expect most likely an LSD, thicker axles, stiffer springs, swaybars, bigger footprint, etc...granted it wont be an STi ...but it won't come with an STi price tag either

yeah, i know that it will be better than the 3, i wasnt trying to imply anything otherwise. dont get me wrong, it will be a great car, its just that if mazda wanted to make it better they would make it all wheel drive - then it would stack up to EVO/STI/WRX types. right now, if i were to buy a FWD sporty car, I would probably go with the MS3... i just wish they made it AWD like the MS6...

did someone say that the ms3 is supposed to be auto tranny only?

a-holes i love how in every article about mazdaspeed they also rag on the MSP but you know what all it would take it a good set of tires and a nice track or back road for some of this A-holes to truely understand what the MSP was made for 90% of us out there if we wanted something to be rediculously fast straight line we would have bought a WRX or an SRT-4 but going fast around corners are just that much more fun!!!!!

Anyway back the mazdaspeed 3 the car looks wicked sweet the specs on it are awesome its definetly going to be interesting to see how it compared to some of the other fast sports sedans out there. I can't wait until they debut but somebody tell mazda the wheels on all their new mazdaspeed cars are ugly lol

(lol),I think the reason for the new Mazdaspeed cars having butt ugly rims is because they lost the rights to Racing Hart, which made gorgoeus rims for the MS Miata and obviously the MSP.

LOL ya i know but still do something else make a decent design that is all I ask mazdaspeed rims when they were in with racing hearts were some of the nicest factory wheels produced the new ones just plain butt ugly I mean they couldn't have looked at those and said they look nice when they had a car finishing on the assembly line

well people dont buy WRXes to drive fast in a straight line... they arent that fast after all... but i hate to break it to you but the WRX does corner better than a protege, and its true potential is released when going "fast around corners". plus they are awesome off road (i.e. rally). please dont think people like WRXes because they are "drag cars" because THEY ARE NOT... the are more of an all around type car that can do pretty much anything...

Having owned 3 protege one being an MP3 and having driven many WRX's, not to mention having owned an STi...I have to strongly disagree. The factory WRX is crap for handling. I test drove one then got back in my MP3 and the difference was imense to say the least.

A WRX should out handle a DX/LX but put it against an MP3/MSP in the corners, and it is simply out classed in handling.

Before a retailiation, I should point out that i agree with your general rebutle and the main point that a WRX is not in any way designed for straight line performance. Hell its not even designed for completely paved roads.

+1. witness the dearth of D Stock WRXs in Topeka.

i'm not sure a stock WRX is outhandling a P5/ES, even. that said, they respond very well to susp upgrades, even if turn-in is still a tad slow.
