Official MAZDASPEED3 Specs: 247hp/280tq!!!

too bad its fwd... I really think this car could pose a legitimate competition to WRXes and STis and EVOs IF it was AWD... the car will be awesome in stock form, but all that understeer which will become more apparent with more power will suck. I think if mazda was really serious about putting out a performance car then they would have done AWD... all the rally inspired cars do very well, as they should.... you can add tons of power and still have a car that handles beautifully. I hope mazda reconsiders the AWD platform for a small car like the 3, because that would really put mazda on the map with subaru and mitsubishi.

I really like mazdas, but I can tell you that anyone who went from mazda to subaru (like me) will never go back to mazda unless they put out an AWD car that has a chance of doing better than a subaru or mitsu.

I AM happy, though, that it is only a hatch... that is awesome, i love hatches/wagons...

Nice info. Yea, I can understand the Audi type cars, my uncle has one in auto. but I was only thinking "econo" type cars like the eclipse,Gti etc.
Some of the turbo Dodges from the '80s were slushboxes, the turbo Caravan, first and second gen DSMs, supras, RX7s, etc, etc....

If that's how much power its making, who really cares if it's auto?

This car will be fast, and who doesnt like torque steer? :)

I have to disagree. The MSP's power level was chosen for 2 reasons. 1, the 2.0L in the protege was originaly designed for less then 100 hp and it simply can be expected for product car reliability levels if pushed beyond 170 hp. 2, the car would start to suffer from torque steer and other transmission issues if pushed further.

craig, did you ever dyno the mp3?

i guess we can speculate all we want; in the end it doesn't matter. i'm not employed by mazda in a product decisionmaking position, so all i can do is guess.

BTW, the WRX comes in auto as well. so does the legacy. turbo + auto isn't that uncommon.

AM I the only one that Detests this car because it's a Hatch?

i think so. like sean said, more for me. it's not like sedans are super-sporty anyway.

considering that mazda can make the best handling FWD car on the planet in stock form, i'm sure they can do quite well with this one too. I would think so anyway. Yeah, it'll prolly have some good torque steer... although in their statement they talked about certain measures taken to try to cut down on that. But i can't imagine mazda following the MSP with something that has 'all that understeer'.

Not bad!!Not bad at all!!(thumb) But I don't see myself getting one bc I'm over hatches. My P5 will be the last hatch I own.

BTW,247 hp+280 lbs of tq->FWD???That has torque steer written all over it....(lol2)

Very impressive indeed, but I'm wondering what price tag they will put to it with that kind of power. By the way those numbers are probably crank numbers so to the wheels will be significantly lower. I would guess the US version to be tuned down slightly to around 200 to the wheels. Just my guess.

the best part is.... is that we already know that this engine can go stronger!!!!!!!! who cares if it's ONLY 246hp? I already know I can get 274hp out of it!!!!!

I don't even have to worry about changing the internals, unlike my current msp that begs the question every time I get in it; "are you going to blow up on me today?"

I'm assuming that it's TMIC? which means we can go even stronger than the MS6's 274hp (fmic). Woohoo!!!!!!

The MS6 runs at a little over 15psi, but Mazda engineers have confirmed that the engine can run on 19psi for extended periods with no problems whatsoever. My understanding is that the exhaust is way too small on the MS6, and that opening it up would yield the biggest gains. Some magazine said the stock exhaust on the MS6 was "like a linebacker trying to breathe through a straw."

Now, if Mazda were to offer 0% financing on the MS3 (like I got on my MSP), I might be willing to trade in for it. My first mods would be: Exhaust, intake, FMIC, and boost controller.

I'm just talking, though - I probably wouldn't trade in my MSP in the end. (first)

this car will KILL a WRX..as far as STI's and EVO's, consider the price paid....the Mazdaspeed 6 is in the same range as EVO's and STI's so this car will be considerably cheaper.....

if saab can engineer their way around torque steer w/ their new 250/258 turbo V6, i think mazda can figure it out. let's all just settle down w/ cries of doom before any of us has driven the car.

ya know what i was the biggest ms3 hater and now that im thinking about it the cost of a bigger clutch and built motor + my trade in = a MS3.Plus I would get it for a good deal through my work and maybe ill wait til there is $2000 trading dollars again + my nice loyalty and grad discounts. a strong 6 speed and bigger motor to start off with sounds pretty nice even if it is FWD. what can the stock MS6 motor take? Well Over 300WHP Id imagine.

I have a feeling that these motors are nothing like ours. Meaning they were intended to make and hold alot of power, w/o shooting a rod out.

I bet 300+ hp in the ms6 or ms3 will be more than ok for a daily driver and drag car.

Of course clutch/LSD always depends on how much abuse is being delt and the driver.

hmmmm.. didn't say what colours it's going to be released in. i assume, the red, black, titanium, silver, black cherry mica, and white that mazdaspeed6 is in.... ?
