Official 2026 Mazda CX-5 Pics and Details Released

CX-5 won’t be offered with manual transmission anymore in the UK and Europe following common trend. I think even on paper 140bhp from 2.5 litre engine in SUV looks similar ridiculous as SUV with 1.0 litre 3 cylinder turbo charged engine, so common in climate obsessed EU.

Huge nope. Looks like all the climate controls are now a touch screen. Number one turn off of a car for me these days is converting easily usable analog controls that can be identified and manipulated by feel into touch screen controls that are often nested in menus requiring one to look to find what you want to chnage.

HORRIBLE trend. That is NOT a good path for any car manufacturer to be doing. Mazda should know better.

I understood ALL CX-5's will have the new touchscreen interface. Have you seen something different?

I think I was thinking of this (from https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a65351814/2026-mazda-cx-5-revealed/). My emphasis:

Mazda also confirmed that the CX-5's rotary controller has been scrapped, and—concerningly—it said there was a "strategic reduction of buttons." It's unclear if the smaller screen is paired with unique switchgear, but the pictures of the available 15.6-inch touchscreen don't show any physical knobs or buttons for the climate controls or audio system—volume knob, where art thou? That would be a downgrade from the outgoing system's user-friendly setup.

Am I a rare bird? I hate seeing fingerprints on the screen. It’s even worse when the sun hits it at certain angles. For this reason, I love the Commander knob and will miss it. All my controlling is next to my leg or on the steering wheel. I don’t have to reach a touchscreen. I keep a soft cloth in the car in case I don’t catch my passenger’s finger in time. That said, all the other cars I would consider require me to use the screen.
I had to drive a Tesla a few times and didn’t enjoy their button free environment. I ended up using the Voice Control interface to do simple tasks like closing the sunroof or adjusting the fan speed. I can’t even get my Mazda to understand me trying to enter an address into the navigation.

Mazda USA has said that the Turbo represents just 10% of CX-5 sales. So the lack of a Turbo will not cause CX-50 to overtake the CX-5. The US tariffs on the CX-5 could have a much bigger impact on sales.
Ten percent of total CX-5 sales (and the most expensive models to boot) is a significant portion of market share... not the direction you want to head in a very competitive segment with your most popular model.

I guess you'll need to keep a microfiber cloth and a small spray bottle handy with a non-damaging cleaner that leaves no residue. That means no alcohol, no ammonia.

Rinseless Wash is my recommendation. I use two: DIY Detail for every surface in the interior, and Armour Detail on the exterior because it has better lubrication for our delicate paint. These formulas are the bees knees and more people need to know about them.

I guess we will know in 26...
We will find out once the detailed trim levels are released in Europe this fall.

"Detailed pricing and configurator information will be available in early September."
