of course it was warm today...

...cuz i had an appointment to take care of my dash-meets-windshield rattle (2008.5). and the thing only really rattles when it's cold out.

the service writer let me know that there WAS a service bulletin on it (already figured that after reading about everyone else's exact same issue) and told me that it was a matter of placing a sort of foam fitting over the hooks that hold it in place.

either way, even though my vin fell in the range of the TSB they still woudln't have been able to diagnose it, so they weren't going to work on it then and there. im familiar with the auto tech field so i wasn't too upset about their decision to not work on it.

done venting

I wouldn't even bother. The fix is hardly a fix. It may go away permanently, it may come back.

I was going to get mine fixed and they even ordered the revised tabs, and I ended up not stopping back in for it. When I stopped back in for an unrelated issue, I asked if they still had the tabs and they had used them for another car and asked if I wanted to re-order them. I said forget it, it wasn't a big deal.

The rattle is worse on some cars, but mine is hardly an issue. It barely happens, outside of the rest of the subtle rattles from the colder temps and brittle plastics.

This is an easy fix to do yourself. Takes 30 minutes tops. There are several posting floating around that describe how to do it. It'll end up taking less time to do it yourself than to take it in, drop off the car, go back to get it, etc.

Yes but I shouldn't have to do it myself...warranties should be taken full advantage of

That's the truth. That windshield rattle bugged me so much though that I didn't even want to fool around with taking the car in only to have them say they couldn't hear anything which is what happens a lot of the time unfortunately.

mine just started yesterday... after some serious wheelhop :(

I honestly never had the sound from the windshield until I hit a not-so-bad pothole and I guess that loosened something up in the windshield. I'll take it to the dealer when I don't feel like being lazy lol. the sound bothers me but I can just turn up the stereo for now or just listen to the exhaust.

i hear it in the morning when it's cold, its faint, but i got some bad wheelhop one day and it started immediately after that.

i can't go to the dealership, i have too many mods, anmd i'm certain my local dealership is a bunch of douchebags as I have heard they are one that voids warranties for minor s***.

what i might be able to do is remove the air duct piece and use a heatgun that we have and heat the bottom of the windshield and press down on it the length of the glass to firmly press it down again. it would probably work the same with a hairdryer

I suggest doing it yourself for a good fix. I got some strips of rubber insulation of some type with a sticky side, popped the cowling, installed it on the underside where it meets the windshield and I haven't had a problem since. It is a bit of a pain in the ass to get the cowling to come off though.

ok i keep reading about this windshield rattle/squeak its it that loud that you can hear it with the radio on and over the exhaust?
