OEM Eagles VS Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S

Thinking of buying a 3s 5 door. I trust TireRack.com for general info about real users experience about tires. The Mazda OEM Goodyear Eagle RS-A tires get a rather poor dry, wet and light snow rating compared to a Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S. The Michelin are listed at a few $$ less. In the south the wet, dry and only light snow is what you drive in.
Am I crazy to tell the dealer I'll buy but only if you change the tires to Michelins!

seems kind of crazy to ask the dealer to change the tires before you buy. if you dont like the tires just buy them yourself. yes, the stock tires suck complete ass but its not like you cant drive on them at all. buy the car, drive on the stock tires for a few thousand miles, and buy the new tires yourself.

well, yes... ive had nothing but bad experience on Michelin Pilots. They are great for the first 6 months or so, but they have a tendancy to wear down fast and uneven. I dont know about the Goodyears, but i usually avoid pilots like the plague

i got 25+k out of the rsa's they weren't the best out there and deffinatly not for a north east winter but they did the job at a level the most people would find ok... its just people who want to push the car to its limits realize the tire was the limit not the car... i say ask the dealer to change them to X tire of your choice and if they say no then oh well.... i wouldn't make it a deal breaker.

That's surprising because I think Pilots are the best tires I've ever had on a car. I had them on my GTI and they lasted an incredible 10 or so track days and at least 20k street miles. I'd get them again in a heartbeat, although I'd probably upgrade to the PS2 instead of the regular Pilots. That's what I'll be getting once these RE050s wear down (it will be interesting to see how these hold up....).

yeah i had the ps2's on my bimmer and honestly they werent that bad, but for the money you're going to spend on them you can find a much better tire that will last much longer

Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3. (first)

If you can afford them, get them. And get something else for snow.

Good choice on the Exalto's. My sister in law got them to replace the stock Eagle's and to be able to handle winter driving. I have yet to hear from them but tirerack.com's survey shows they are an awesome tire.
