Obx & T3/t4 Turbo Set Up Help!!!

SOCAL MSP

Ok a few people are giving some great adviseon this but I want a pretty good break down so I know what the **** Im doing...I have a mazdaspeed protege. I wanna go with the t3/t4 turbo with obx mani. Some say it isnt worth but cost wise the numbers it can put out well its enough for me.

I want to get the vibrant exhaust system first and someone told me that I would need to get a custom down pipe and hotpipe.

First what is a hotpipe??

Second should I get the vibrant exhuast installed first??

Third, the down pipe. When I get this turbo setup installed..I just need a custom downpipe to connect to the vibrant ex??? And am I gonna need anything else.

Thanks I really need help on this....

ok 1st off a hot pipe is the pipe that comes off your turbo and goes to the inlet on your ic core. and yes you would have to get a custom s pipe to replace the stock one because the exhaust housing on a t3/t4 is different than the 5 bolt exhaust housing of the msp's gt25r

o and it dosent matter if you install the vibrant 1st or not because if your new dp will mate up to the stock j pipe then it will mate up to the vibrants j pipe

"First what is a hot pipe??"::

the part that goes from the exhaust side of the turbo to inter cooler.

"Second should I get the vibrant exhaust installed first??"::

Not unless you alrdy have the custom down pipe made and know it will match up to the vibrant mid pipe.

"Third, the down pipe. When I get this turbo setup installed..I just need a custom downpipe to connect to the vibrant ex??? And am I gonna need anything else." ::

you'll need a custom hot pipe and downpipe wither way with the t3 unless you just want to run without an exhaust at all. dont forget you'll also be needing a n external wastegate since the turbo will hit the block if you try to run it with an internal wastegate but i'm sure you prob got that alrdy. cant really think of much else since i've only seen one of these setups in person once..

Ok so right now I have a fmic and hard piping. the piping going to the turbo to the fmic. Im gonna have to redo that pipin?? Yeah I plan to get an extreanl wastegate...

Think of it this way.

A GT25, which is stock on an MSP, at 12 PSI will make the same amount of power as a t3/t4 at 8 PSI. That is a very rough comparison.

The t3/t4 is marginally bigger and will ultimately have more lag due to the fact of pushing more air into it to get it to spool. The MSP motor will produce nothing more than what you are at right now.

I am not saying you can't do to your own car what you would like, but it is simply not beneficial. However, if you are planning on going with a forged motor further down the road, then at the very least you will have a good pile of parts to slap on already.

A more beneficial choice of turbo's would be a GT28rs turbo. A little bigger than a GT25 is all.

Yeah I already have a forged motor and how much boost can the t3/t4 push??

Forget about how much boost to run, how much POWER do you want to

make? T3/T4's can make anywhere from 375 to 725HP, spooling up from as

fast as 3500 to as slow as 6000 rpm's.

I see....So this puppy can make power??? I just want to be or over 300hp and thats enough for me.. I aint trying to kill myself lol..

Horsepower should not pass your IQ........

If 300HP is your goal then let me suggest a T3/28RS with a .63 turbine, hell

you could make 300 on a regular GT28RS. The problem with a T25 turbine is

that it will start to choke and really limit peak HP at higher boost levels.

The only thing I dislike about the OBX manifold is how restrictive those ports look. (Oval ports on the head, circular on the manifold)

Yeah it dosent have to be the obx mani as long as I can find a good mani for the t3/t4. So the t3/t4 can handle 30 psi or is that to much for it???

Yeah, I had the spool turbo revised manifold, same as the OBX and I lost big HP over the first manifold.

**** me!! Na I aint gettin that one then...I just want a good mani. The only reason I aint going with the gt28rs is the cost of the turbo alone. Theres no mani for it and the thunder gb is over.

This is the new mani, restrictive, good quality, not stainless.

T3/T4 turbo's are the best universal turbo money can buy. You can run 13 PSI on the street and then switch to 25+ at the track. It all depends on how big said T3/T4 turbo is. Get a .60 trim and you will be happy.

If your plan is for 300 BHP at the wheels, that turbo will get you there with ease.

Don't skimp on the turbo or manifold either. Have a manifold made if nothing else, you and the pocket book will appreciate it when it's all said and done.

True...How about the piping from my fmic to the turbo. Would I have to redo the piping???
