obx header here and on

you will still pass emisions

hmmm...you MAY pass a sniff test, but you will NOT pass a visual inspection...

"Under federal law, the maximum fine for removing a catalytic converter from a
vehicle is $2,750 per vehicle. The person who was responsible for taking the
catalyst off would also be required to put an appropriate catalyst back on."

oh, and here ya go, from your own states emissions site:

"(a) Any person owning or operating any motor vehicle or motor vehicle engine on which is installed or incorporated a system or device used to control emissions from the motor vehicle in compliance with federal motor vehicle rules shall maintain the system or device in good operable condition and shall use it at all times that the motor vehicle or motor vehicle engine is operated.

e) No person may sell, offer for sale, or use any system or device which circumvents or alters any system, device, engine, or any part thereof, installed by a vehicle manufacturer to comply with the Federal Motor Vehicle Control Program during actual in-use operation of a motor vehicle on Texas roadways. A notice of the prohibitions and requirements of this subsection shall be displayed at all motor vehicle parts, supply, repair, alternative fuel conversion, or other vehicle service facilities in Texas which sell, offer for sale, install, or offer to install any vehicle emission control, exhaust system or device, aftermarket alternative fuel conversion, or engine. The notice shall be displayed in a prominent and conspicuous location near each consumer entrance way and service counter. The notice shall read: "State law prohibits any person from selling, offering for sale, or using any system or device for the purpose of circumventing the emission control device on a vehicle or vehicle engine. State law also prohibits any person from removing or disconnecting any part of the emission control system of a motor vehicle, except to install replacement parts which are equally effective in reducing emissions. Violators are subject to penalties under the TCAA of up to $25,000 per violation." This notice shall be no smaller than 8 by 10 inches (20.32 cm by 25.4 cm) and shall be clearly visible to all customers"

OBX roducts are big in the dsm tuning area, mostly because that is the application they produce almost all of their products for. I had an eclipse with OBX intake and header and they were both quality material and came with good install instructions(although I didnt need em)

As for mazda I dont think OBX is planning on doing as much as in dsm and therefor wont be puting their whole productive force behind those products, this usually means less quality.

Event hough they are damn near half the cost of the other 2 header possibilities for our cars. that si the biggest attraction for this.

Instead of calling the seller has anyone called OBX the, selves to see what the deal is? If not Ill call tomorrow while Im at work.

They have been called a couple times, same as arospeed. It's the same story. Usually they say they will be ready in a month. Just search the word header on the site and you will see the same kind of thing as here except nobody ever recieved their header. Things could have changed but I remain skeptical.

well from what I have seen this racingmazda header is as good if not better than the AWr and less expensive.

Its just that 200$ price tag on the OBX that keeps catching my eye. We will see, if they sold the prototype I would hope that would be reason for them to start producing, but like has been said we have all heard that before.

I will keep my fingers crossed but if I dont find out for sure from OBX in the next couple days I will sign up on the RM header GB.

here are some pics,

I just hope they follow through on the 4-6 week deal they said, but who knows.

BTW, thrown a cel yet? or did you do the fic first. Might not have to since the 2nd cat is still there. hm

Material Differences

To answer the members questions on material differences between Stainless Steel and Ceramic Coated is this:

1. First to cermaic coat a metal would typically mean the metal material itself is a carbon based steel...like a mild steel...where the steel doesn't have any corrosive resisant ability

2. Now S.S. has excellent corrosive resistance properties and strength....although there are levels of S.S. like the 300 & 400 series metals

3. Cermaic coating on metals provide protection and heat transfer...although not tremendously helpful on cheap headers...but something well coated like the space shuttle that has the ceramic tiles that keep the shuttle from buring up upon re-entry...meaning the concept works....just usually cheaply applied on headers

4. Personally....the bang for your dollar is a well fabricated cermaic coated header inside and out w/ mild carbon steel ....again if well done will not rust or change color under heat influence..plus reduced engine temperature under the hood...although not very realistic in nature but more in theory with these type applications.

Peace!
