notes on speeding tickets in GA

So I went to court yesterday-- plead guilty before the judge came out to the solicitor (me and 100 other people) but they reduced my points count from 84 in a 55 to 78 in a 55 because I showed up in the courtroom.

Problem is I had to pay for the 84 in a 55-- which was like 272 incl. $5 in court fees. Ass rapeage.

I could see the chart though above the cashier's head -- up to 23 over fines stay about 160 or less. Go 24 over and they instantly jump up to $250 or so. I think at 33 or 34 over is when the real ass-rapings begin, and wreckless driving could set in.

So pissed b/c I had my radar/laser detector in my glove box-- and I'm pretty sure if I had had it on I might have jammed the brake hard enough to get to 78 and saved myself 120 bucks.

FWIW

I never, ever put the detector away. And I've had a ticket in Atlanta...from like 2002 I forgot about it, and there was a warrant out for my arrest this year...lol. I finally paid it.

Has anyone ever been pulled over and tried frantically to pull their detector off the window and stash it before the cop comes up to the car? I always thought that if I was pulled over, and he saw the detector, that any chance of getting off would go out the window. However, the only time I have been pulled over, I forgot about my plan. lol, I don't think the cop noticed it however... not that it helped any.

It's best to get a visor mount and they sometimes can't see it. My friend hid his wire and it's damn near invisible unless the cop croutches down.

I'm wary about grabbing anything and stashing it while getting pulled over. That's a quick way to get stripped searched or shot.

This is why i no longer speed ..............as often. I can't afford it. i even got rid of my radar detector in an effort to stop speeding. I once got a ticket with the radar detector cause i was foolishly speeding around a curve.

You are pretty much spot on. Many cops will write people up for detectors. Some are also prejudice to: excuses, performance cars (mostly imports), whatever. It seems like it just depends on who pulls you over. I never seem to get out of tickets anymore, and they are ******* lame - 10 over on the freeway with no traffic. WTF?

I usually just whip it out...this seems to work best.

By whipping it out, I'm referring to my military ID card.
The guys at the SE Meet we had up at Cheaha, AL can attest to that. Bastards, next time DON'T speed off without me!

there are plenty of ways to get out of speeding tickets in georgia. here is one example. if you are speeding down a hill that has more than a 7 degree angle then the police cannot pull you over for speeding no matter what the speed. also here is another example. if a cop pulls you over and writes you a ticket for speeding, and you go to court to plead not guilty, when the cop shows up for the hearing, ask to see his calibration log on his radar gun. if the cop does not have this then they have to throw this ticket out because there is no way that the cop can prove that the radar dectector is functioning properly on that day. Most cops don't even do a calibration log because they think it is to tiresome and it really is to tedious. if you are a college student and have access to Galelio then you can look these up through Lexis Nexis. or you can pay for the program on www.lexis-nexis.com.

just my 2 cents

i found the best way to handle the bad tickets is to go and talk to the solicitor as soon as you can, most of them have a day set aside to talk with people, take Roswell Municipal court for example, the solicitor, Milton Barwick btw, real nice guy, you can meet with him on any friday from 8-4 minus lunch, just be honest and he'll work something out with you, I got my most recent 71 in a 35, thats 36 over, reduced to 14 over and it wont show up on my record, cost $180 fine and I offered to take a defesive driving course to show I was concious of my mistake. So i can't complain about it, besauce if I would have went to court it would have cost a lot more.
