Not entirely happy with the car....

2003.5 Silver MSP
Hey everyone, my first thread/post, so here goes...

I just bought my MSP 2 weeks ago, its a 2003.5 that was the last one left at the dealership. I test drove it twice, and the car was phenomenal. I previously drove a V6 Camaro, and I can finally see why people fell in love with these cars in the first place as I most definitely have.

Anyway, enough of my rambling. I had never owned/driven a turbo car before, so I was careful and didn't beat on it the first 1K miles. Now after its about at 1000, im starting to work out the motor and I am none too happy. It seems to double-surge on me (like at 2500 where its supposed to and then shortly after) and I get HORRIBLE gas mileage (23MPG combined, mostly HWY miles). Obviously there is something wrong with the fuel map, I was wondering if there is any way to check if your ECU had been flashed or not?

Also, I bought an extended warranty with the car, are there any parts that I should stay away from or are simple bolt-ons OK?

Thanks everyone.

Tyler

Your car should have been flashed as its a 03.5!
I would take it back to the dealer and make them check out the problem and fix it. Surges are not normal, if thats what it is.

What type of driving do you do? City or Highway....23 mpgs is not bad for city driving. If you constantly drive above 70 mph on the highway(I do), you will not get 30 mpgs as advertised.

Tell the dealer about your driving problems and let them try to solve it. You have the 12,000/12 month bumper to bumper warranty. Make sure that they check all of your turbo hoses and confirm that you are flashed.

Good luck!

Please correct this with proper warranty information. If this were true, I'd be on my third warranty period.

Say what? Does the car not come with a 12,000 mile or 12 month bumper to bumper warranty on everything? After that you have 38,000 miles of limited warranty.

Bottom line read your manual and go to your dealer.

actually i bought the 5 year 100K mile B2B warranty, so its really not an issue....

I was thinking about getting a turbo timer, boost gauge, BOV and an injen intake. Will the dealership give me any lip for it?

The standard bumper to bumper warranty is 48 months/50,000 miles. Wear and tear items like brakes, clutch, etc. are covered for the first 12,000 miles.

Depends on your dealer. They have to prove that modifications put on the car caused the part in question to fail. Most dealers will give you a hard time on warranty work if your car is heavily modified. An CAI ,boost guage, and turbo timer are not "heavy" mods.

I wouldn't imagine so, since a turbo timer should keep my car OUT of the shop more often than in. The reason I asked about the fuel map is because the inside of my exhaust tip is totally black after only 900 miles....

The MSP, whether flashed or not will do that in the tip. Make a habit of wiping it out while washing it. You really do not need a turbo timer to protect our T25. Just make sure that you never shut it off without allowing for some cool down time or turn it off; and turn it back on again. Use some quality oil and change it frequently. The turbo will last as long, as you do not abuse it.

And yeah, I was wrong about bumper to bumper. Hope mr moderator feels all warm and fuzzy now!

I thought after two weeks that there was something not so pleasurable about my car anymore. It didn't seem quite as YIPEE. Then a chick sucked me off in it. Then I was ok.

it's been argued that our turbo's don't even need a turbo timer. I just take it easy as i'm nearing my destination. Besides, too cold here to worry about that stuff anyways :)

As for the hesitation/ jumping. Mine did this as well. got the car flashed, and it's all better. Might want to get the dealer to stick on the updated bushings for the rear as well since she's there and while the sway bar is new so that won't have to be replaced down the road. Part 156E's for the rear.

take care

Welcome to the boards. I felt sorta kinda the same way after I traded my GSR for the MSP. But now, after about 7k miles, I feel a little better about it. Anyway, what dealership did you buy from in the Hampton Roads area, just curious.

I live in Newport News, and just wanted to let you know that there are other MSP owners in the 757. Go to the regional forum, and look under the Eastern region forum, then look for Virginia, and our thread is the Hampton Roads peeps. Good luck with the MSP..

2 weeneds ago I did 80 - 90 consistent with traffic, 3 people +luggage in the car and got 30.0923983458 miles to the gallon. The only thing I hate is how shallow the gears are in this car, sounds like I'm tackin the shiat outta her doing 3.8 to 4K consistently :( it makes me (nervous)

It doesn't matter if it's a 2003.5. When I bought my car that is a 2003.5, I had to take it to another dealership and have the "Flash" done to it.

same here, when i bought my 03.5 in dec they swore it was flashed and all... it wasnt. just had it flashed yesterday and its great

(mswerd) FLM! The revs be a humming at 65-70MPH.
I get betwix 30-36MPG dependent upon the phase of the moon and my right foot :)

I bought mine from Casey Mazda near Fort Eustis, you prolly have seen me, I'm the silver one with dealer tags. I've seen two since i bought it, one black one blue. Either of them you?

EDIT: N/m, i just looked at your post. Do you know either of the other ones though?

Whay didn't ya beat on it in the first 1k miles??? You should have! Your rings have probably not seated correctly in the cylinders! Beating as in, try not to go over 5000rpm. But full throttle until then, expecially going up hills!!! To put some load on the piston rings!! Aaah whatever.... i'm just ranting.... bring it to the dealer, tell em it sucks...

I don't know anyone with either color. If you ever see a silver one, with an Mi-4 in the rear door windows, that's me. I hope you are enjoying your car, I can't wait to get back and drive mine, ( I'm on Military Orders out of state ). I'll holla at you when I get back to VA..
