Nooob looking for used rims

Hi all, new here but had a quick question about rims/tires. I tried to
find the answers I need through searching this forum but am still left
with one question.

I need new tires and rims so am trying to buy used via Craigslist, and am
looking at a set of Advanti 16inch rims, with 205/45/16 tires, 4x100, and an offset=40.

I am still unsure if these would fit my car, I have the LX, with the 4 bolt pattern, and rear drum brakes, and can't find any information regarding what size rims and tires will fit the LX, or if the LX would be any different than the P5 or ES.

I know a lot of peeps online here that run 205/45/16's without a problem, so is their anything else about this tire/rim set up that I'm looking at that I need to know, I'm still a noob and haven't bought rims before.

Thanks all,

D

Found another set of ALT's, same tire size - 205/45/16, but she doesn't know the offset of the rim. By the looks of things, it could be from 38-45. Anyone know if that would make a difference for mounting on the Protege?

And lastly, found another set ALT's, 205/50/16 for a great price, and the larger sidewall might be a softer ride, but the 4 bolt pattern is 114.3. From what I've found I need 100, but many rims are listed as either 100/114??? I'm a little confused why that is, can I therefore use the 114's without a problem.

Thanks all, I'll stop posting now and see if anyone responds.

you need 4x100.. offset should be fine anything about 45, but since your stock height the 40 might be ok.
The reasons some list as 4.100 and 4x114.3 is that they are multi lug pattern I.E. they have both the the lug patterns drilled into the wheel

Thanks only1, thats one thing down. Just looking on tirerack.com for the ProLX, and the 16's they show have offsets from 38 - 45. I'm not trying
to disagree, I have no idea what would fit, I'm not sure if tirerack can be trusted 100% or not, but they seem to have a good reputation.

Thanks

So I guess no one would disagree that 205/45/16's with a 38 to 45 offset
will fit all proteges then. I am buying used very soon and don't want to get screwed.

you need to know the rim widths too.

if the rim is 6" wide, then yeah you can run 38 offset. I am running a 35 offset on my 6" rims. But if the rim is 7" wide, then you shouldn't go lower than a 40.

Hey Azi,

Thanks for the tip, I'm looking to get a set of 205/45/16 Motegi's that are 16x7, with a 45 offset. Looks like a good deal, rims and tires w/ 75% tread left. Anyone know how deep a penny goes if a low profile tire has 75% tread left??? For the price, even 50% would be ok though.
