Noisy Horn

Hi Guys,
Is there a way to quiet down the horn when using the power lock? That thing is soo loud, its a nuisance to my neighbors.

You live too close to your neighbors lol. I could go out back and shoot my 12 gauge at this very moment and no one would even say a damn thing.


Get a quiter horn maybe? I don't know, a horn can't be quite one moment and loud the next.

Do you have a Mazda5 or a Protege5? Can't speak for the latter, but I know my Mazda5 only honks as a confirm if you hit the lock twice within 5 seconds. I just hit it once and look for the confirmation flash of the lights.

Louder than my Honda Fit.. Louder than our old Oddyssey..

VW Beetle that we had before had *softer* horn for confirmation but loud horn for nornal use..

checking flashing when you lock.. is the *stealth* way to lock..

Honking.. *loud* is my/macho way.. (bump)

Huh, you should hear the Hella horn I put on the car I had in the Philippines! You need a loud one there because of the way people drive out there. Here I can hardly remember how many times I've used my horns while driving.

I use the horn to confirm when I lock the door but it's handy that you have to click twice before the horn sounds, I click only once when I don't want the horn to sound when needed.

The alarm (if you have one) sets with only one push of the button.

However, if you like the "confirm note", perhaps you can add a stebel nautilus air horn like the Miata owners do. I just added one to the Miata, they are 35-40$, and it is a self contained compressor/dual horn unit that is nice, loud and commanding when you need to lay on the horn. If I am not mistaken, when the air horn tries to reproduce the short "confirm note", you will just get a muted note.

I like it so much, that I plan on adding one to the Mazda5.

In the Miata, if I used the horn, I would not get any reaction from the other driver as they were runnning me over. With the new air horn, I get an immediate reaction: a steering correction, a wave, or a finger.(headbang)

...or unless you are like my wife, she wants to hear the horn to "ensure" the car is locked (confused)
