Noise with full right lock

Hi all,

I have a two week old '08 MS3 sport, and twice when parking at work I heard this loud whine/squeel while I was parking. I searched the forum and found a reference to it by one user who said his dealer said it was the power steering pump, and that he shouldn't use the full lock(!!??)

I know the manual says you shouldn't use the full lock for longer then 5 seconds but should the power steering be so stressed while parking? An I wasn't even near 5 seconds...Also it was the right full lock (car turning right) at very low speed maybe 1-2 mph.

Anyone else heard this sound? If so did anyone took it in and had it checked?

Thanks

I think I have something similar. It only happens sometimes, usually at low speeds like while parking. It might be different than your problem, but after I turn the wheel I'll hear a humming noise. It was worse when I got the car, but now I almost never hear it. I didn't bother to bring it to the dealership as I doubt they could reproduce it. I'm starting to think my issue is related to the brakes rubbing, but usually when I move the steering wheel back and worth it stops making the noise.

it was REALLY loud on my car and i took it in, i woudl turn in any direction from a stop and it would make a loud grinding type of noise. they change a bunch of steering racks and bearings or something and the noise is gone, does it BARELY when i reverese turning or cold start turns..take it in and replicate with the mechanic in ur seat, i ahd to drive the master mech around to make sure he heard the ****** noise cuz they said..."could not replicate noise" on the paper so i said hop in and i made it right away

OK got it,

Thanks folks. I will wait for my first oil change and make sure I can replicate with the mechanic in the car...If they fix something I will post back.

Best
