2004 Mazda 6s Wagon
Ill find out at the garage in another day or two, but I had an interesting night with my 2004 Mazda 6s 3.0L

As I was driving, the battery light flashed a few times so I turned the AC off. Then a few seconds later, it felt like the car stalled and I noticed all the gauges and lights on my dash were off, and my stereo turned off. Second later everything was back on and driving fine.

I thought it was the alternator, so I let it run 15 minutes when I got home.

Went to start it, nothing, not a tick or anything.

When I turn the key, all the chimes ding, I can hear the fuel pump engaging etc. Dash lights all turn on, but NOT the stereo and the HVAC system doesnt work either, AND the display where the clock normally is, has a strip of lines across it.

Windows go up and down, Power locks do not work.
Headlights come on and do not dim, battery is at 70%

Headlights dont dim when I turn the key. Its like its not engaging the starter at all.
The theft light on the dash isnt lighting up or flashing either, when Im pretty sure it did whenever the key was inserted.

Im sort of thinking that I had some sort of power surge for whatever reason and perhaps it wiped the key coding? Anyone have any idea?

check all your fuses and relays...but its sounds like there is a short somewhere. might be hard to find...

They said they got the car running by changing the main fuze but it blew it after a few minutes.

They arnt even able to plug into the computer and they said they really arnt sure what to do other then tracing every single wire...

Why did it keep running for me the other day after it stalled if the main fuze was blown? Are there ways to bypass that thing?

Update:

Apparently a terminal on the alternator was bad or corroded and it kept burning out the main fuse.

$550+ Tax. 220 for the alternator, 2 hours for the install, and 3 hours for the diagnostics they ran trying to figure out what was wrong... That part I think is bogus and Ill haggle with them once the work is done cause I dont want them doing it half assed..

Amazing how many odd symptoms come from one bad part...
