no spark, one for the msp gurus

Well I picked up msp 2 days ago, it doesn't have spark. It has the 1.8 coil conversion on it. The computer connects with the ecu tool we have, its recognizing signals from the cam and crank sensors. The coils produce secondary spark every now and then. We can get them to manually produce spark, just not on its own. This car was hacked apart pretty good a few owners back so any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I would start by checking the harnesses, then maybe swapping in a pair of 2.0 coils? I know the 1.8L coils are considered an upgrade but if the coilpack is bad then converting back to the original setup would probably be cheaper, 2.0 coilpacks go for $26 at the autozone near me vs. over $100 for the 1.8L version.

Okay, ill give that a shot then, ill have to source a vc for it somewhere, I found one off a 2.0 Protege but it looks like a different bolt pattern and gasket wise than the one on it. Thank you! Also it looks like The enigne has been removed at one point, is there any grounds I should look for?? Everything looks connected from what I can see.

I left out something kind of big, the battery looks like it shorted out on the hood, which blew the main fuse, well the guy decided instead of replacing it he would crimp the two ends of the fuse together to bypass it.... could the computer be bad? It communicates and is receiving signal from the came and crank sensors but the coils are not, I tried switching the capacitor but it didn't do anything? The computer is the only other thing I can think of between the coils and sensors, besides a possible short in the wiring or a ground that was not reconnected when the engine was out.

Okay, so I got the right valve cover, and cop setup now. I found two cam sensors off 626's but they tested about the same as the one that came on my car. I put it all on, and I now have spark every other time that I should!?! I double checked timing and I believe its dead on, my intake cam is fp39 and the exhaust cam is fsd7 are they the correct factory camshafts? Is there any other things I can check????
