no cool air without a/c!

Hi,
I have a brand new M3-5 door, am very happy overall with the car. It really is a great design!

There is one little thing that bugs me, and I would like to know if this is normal.

I have A/C but prefer to use it only on hot days in order to avoid the fuel economy hit. Today was about 20 degrees (68 or so F) and the car was feeling stuffy - so I just turned on the cool air feed, A/C was off, and the car started warming up! The fan air was quite a lot warmer than the outside air, even with the temperature dial set fully counterclockwise (and yes, fan is in pass through mode, not recirculate)

I found that to stay comforatable I needed to either run the a/c or open the window.

I sure am glad I bought the a/c option!

thanks in advance for your advice or comments

I should add that the fan air is not really hot or anything (which would obviously suggest a problem with the car) but definiely warmer than ambient.
car was cruising along at 80 kph not revved up or anything
thanks

Doe to the black interior, the heater ducts pick up a lot of heat. It takes a while for this heat to dissipate when you have it in vent mode.

Also, the air intake is right in front of the windshield, so some of the heat may be drawn in from the engine compartment.

Goldwing, I think you are right, the black dash soaks up the sun and takes a long time to cool down. It is a good idea to purchase the car with the a/c.
Thanks for the replies guys .

During the really hot summer days, I put a cover on my car or a window blind. That helps to keep that sun rays out some.

Just turn on the AC for a few minutes to cool down the vents, then turn it off and run like you did. That works in all of my cars. I rarely use AC for more than a few minutes...
