Note thats not all that was painted...giving it a full 24 hours drying time b4 mounting wheels.....

you know that you don't see the front of the hubs when the wheels are mounted....right?

Yea but its easier to paint the complete hub vs just the edge..Plus Im anal that way in that I would know it wasnt painted.... Finally I wanted to stop a bit of the surface rusting that occures in that area...

i need to get off my ass and paint my hubs and calipers. the rust/salt corrosion is driving me crazy.

Ok guys. Finished my weekend project and I gotta admit it was a bit more work than I originall thought... I painted my brake calipers and the center hubs on my rotors. I chose silver for the caliper paint as I wanted to eliminate the rusty bronze look of the stock rotors, and painted the rotor hubs black.
Put the car up on a lift on Sat morning and removed the wheels. Using liberal amounts of Brake cleaner (1 can per caliper/rotor) and some wire brushes I cleaned the calipers and rotor hubs. Then I masked off the rotors and used nespaper for overspray protection. I painted the rotor hubs using high temp engine enamel low gloss black spray paint.
I then applied 2 coats of the brush on caliper paint giving a 20 min drying time between coats.
I let the car sit overnite so the caliper paint had time to cure. I applied the mazda sticker to the calipers and clear coated the calipers with High Temp engine enamel clear spray paint.
While the clear paint cured I cleaned and waxed the RX-8 wheels. I remounted the wheels and torqued the lugnuts according to the factory specs.
After a quick wash the car looks awsome..While still stock the brakes now have a custom look. Now on to the pics.....

Overall Im happy with the result..Yes I should have removed the pads b4 painting but they will be upgraded in a project soon....

WES the Mazda lettering is a sticker. I clearcoated it after applting to make sure it didnt peel off.... I got it from a seller on the "other" forum...Was like $7 shipped for the MAZDA lettering, 3 lettering and Mazda flying M logos...Got like 6 of each....

I think that vinyl decal is going to melt due to the high brake heat generated.
I want to get the reverse lettering and use it as a stencil, then paint the letters in black.

I just finished doing that to my P5, pretty easy and gets rid of the rust.
