new wheels: 17" Enkei CP1

Finally got some new wheels:

17" Enkei CP1 [ 7.5"wide, +42 offset ]
Falken ZE-512 [ 205/40ZR17 ]

The pics don't do justice to the wheels, they are polished and about half the intensity of chrome. No rubbing at all, but it looks like I need to lower my ride now and paint my calipers. Any suggestions for lowering kit that might drop me an 1" ?

Here are some pics:

Looking good. A friend of mine had those on his Golf but his weren't polished. Yup, definitely need a drop. Eibachs look really good, as do Goldline, Tein, etc....just do a quick search for pictures.

Thanks for the info. I'm leaning towards the Eibachs pro kit. After reading through hundreds of posts, I am wondering if my struts are going to crap out when I put on the new springs. I have 40k miles on my P5 now. I don't take turns at 70mph or anything, but there are some cobblestone streets that I have to drive on at least a couple times a week.

Looks good. I would personally have gone with 215/40 or 225/40. 205's are a bit narrow IMO. The sidewalls look like they're tapered inward from the rim to the tread. But it's all personal opinion anyway.

painted my headlights yesterday. Took a couple of hours, but I think they came out nice. Now, I just need to get a Eibachs Pro Kit.

205/45s not available? It would have filled up the gap a bit more and you probably would not have to worry about the drop and wearing out the struts. Not to mention losing the ride comfort with a drop, but I don't think many folks here worry about a crappy ride as much as how good the car looks on the outside.

VERY nice rims, and i really like the black headlights on a red car.

On the down side, tires do look too narrow for the rim, and If you wanted that low profile of a tire then I would have went with 18" rims. lowering it will fix the top gap, but you'll still have quite a bit in the front and back of the tires.

I was going to put 205-40 18"s on mine with a 7" rim. My car is very low so rubbing was a concern so i wanted to keep the rim/tire more narrow.

205/45s were not available and Rishies fitment guide had me kind of freaked out about rubbing because the offset on these wheels are +42mm. I now see that it is not a problem at all.

The ride comfort is the same, except on the highway the ride has improved (much smoother). The tapered side walls look really cool in person, makes the wheels look more low profile than they are and according to Falken's website, the measuring rim width of the Falken ZE-512 is 7.5" with an approved rim width of 7" to 8".

So, I can either sell the tires and get another set of 215/45/17 of the Falken ZE-512 or the Kumho ECSTA ASX. Or, I can just ride these until it is time to replace them.

they look nicely, but hello to shocks and springs time to lower.

i have 215 45z and no rubbing with dropage

o yea one more question so you didnt bake yours i take it, you just painted the inside with flat black?

o hmmm yours just looks different for some reason than the others that i have seen, not that, that is a bad thing but ya

Do you have to use tuner lug nuts with those Enkei's, or do the standard ones fit?

yeah. it came with some gorilla lugs and a key. nothing else will fit and unfortunately when I painted my calipers, one of my studs broke and is stuck inside one of the lugs. so, I need to get 1 new gorilla lug.

You get those from Discount Tire? Sorry to hear your stud broke.

Yes. It was a pretty good deal with the free shipping and the wheels look very cool on the protege5. Like others have said, if you are not lowered, I would have gotten 215/50/17 instead of the 205/40/17 that I got. Next time I will get the larger wheels to help fill the wheel well.
