Hot off the presses. For any vehicle that falls into the special service campaign for the exhaust valve stem seal oil consumption, the extended powertrain warranty has been updated to include ANY issue with the powertrain components listed in the owners warranty manual and NOT JUST any issues caused by the faulty valve stem seals and replacement.
The new extension is upgraded to 7 years, 84k miles up from the standard 5 year 60k miles factory warranty for the ENTIRE powertrain. I have attached documentatiin from Mazda outlining this. This is only for vehicles that fall into the special service campaign for the valve stem issue.
Also, an oil consumption test is NOT required to have the seals replaced. Do not let them tell you otherwise. It is instructed in the dealer letter to their service dept personnel that it is NOT required and to do the repair if the customer asks.
