New Toy From Protephile

I just received a new toy in the mail from Protephile.

What could it be ....

Something good

Something with a velocity stack

I've been looking for a new airfilter that makes good power and has very good filtration. I stumbled upon a few reviews from Australian websites that show the Simota Power Stack is a fantastic filter for the money, and readily available from our local Simota supplier (protephile).

So I'm getting ready to do a few of my own tests on the old protege.

This is just a teaser.

Before the end of the week I should have some dyno numbers and 1/4 mile times. Mind you Ill be comparing this filter to another pod filter that I'm using. So ANY gains are fantastic, esp if the filtration capacity is as good as I've read.

...i have been a simota user for a few years (including the one you have) as it is pretty inexpensive. unfortunately, it's filtration properties is not that good. the throttle body needs frequent cleaning. i decided to go with K&N cone type or HKS mushroom type (1 K&N/HKS = 4 simotas in my part of the world)

you may have a better experience, though. this is only my personal experience.

Here's the original link zero supplied to me. Actually the HKS mushroom did pretty poorly
in the filtration department.
K&N makes a good filter though, no question. The Simota is right up there in performance comparatively, especially at roughly half the cost.

By the way, these are not 'readily' available through me yet. We're just having a little fun with a test of our own.

Thanks for the link!!! Results of that test made me rethink my concept of bang-for-the-buck filters.

...and I wonder where to get the 3A Racing filters to test it, myself.

And mine... I've had a few old Simotas and the filtration was absolutely horrid. And dyno results for Simotas, even newer ones, aren't really that impressive.

Not surprised about the sponge filters... those are all absolute crap, no matter how expensive and popular they are. A sponge can never filter as well as a pleated fabric or paper filter.

One thing you have to take into account... this test can't tell you what will make the most power on your car... some very free flowing filters mess up MAF readings and can make less power due to that.
