Little update on the Istop shenanigans... I disconnected the hood/bonnet microswitch and now the car 'thinks' it's being serviced so the Istop doesn't shut down the engine. Everything else works fine and no warning lights anywhere so I think it's a big win.
Now for the cylinder deactivation... That's a whole different story and apparently not that easy unfortunately.

I tried to relocate this switch. With it not being activated it throws a warning of the hood being open on the dash.

I'm learning to avoid the i-stop by being gentle with my brake pedal pressure. Apparently, the engine won't shut off at a stop unless you are putting a good amount of pressure on the brake. I'm finding that this engenders early, gentle braking habits which certainly increases fuel economy and reduces brake wear. Its actually an ingenious aspect of i-stop design.
