Just purchased a new Mazda2 and am really enjoying it. It must have one of the best manual trannys on the market today. As you can see from the photo, I am not new to Mazda as the car next to the new M2 is my forty year old Mazda RX2 in blue, naturally!(yes)

I think you just need to keep the clutch at the friction point for a bit longer if your 1st to 2nd shifts are a bit rough. I've had the same problem, but it's getting much smoother now if I make sure I don't let up on the clutch too quickly.

Of course, I'm no expert, but that's just what I have noticed so far.
