hello everyone from michigan, im new to this forum and to mazdas

i have a couple questions for everyone

first
Im looking at getting a new set of tires for my mp5, what do you suggest
I live where it snows alot (winter driving is very little) so i need a tire that is decent in the snow but also last for a while. And im assuming these directional tires need to be pulled off the rim and put on correctly, i would rather not do that, if there is a good non directional tire out there

and second question

ive seen this topic of resetting the computer for better mileage
my mp5 is all stock with 75,000 miles on it. how do you do this reset? how often do you do it?

any help with tires/ reset computer would help a ton

please if you respond send a email to me if you can

(dont know how often i will check back, i check email everyday for work)

thanks again
scott

Scott, I use Kumho ECTSA ASX tires on my P5, in snow they work very well for an all season tire.

I'm not sure you will derive any benefit by resetting the computer. It can be re-set by removing
the negative battery cable for a short time and reconnecting the cable. You will lose stored data.
After driving a few cycles the computer will re-adjust as needed.

Fuel mileage usually drops as a result of the oxygen sensor becoming lazy/sluggish. Don't
think there is a cure for that other then replacing the sensor.

ok i will check into that, as for the tires i will be looking around, kuhmo tires, do they last? i just dont want to spend 400 dollars on tires that only last like 1 year

Welcome to the forum. Where in Michigan are you located?

I just bought a set of Dunlop Fierce tires in 205/50/16 for my P5 and I love them. $300.00 out the door at Belle Tire and then $40 for my local guys to mount/balance them. They are excellent tires in both wet ans snowy conditions. In dry, they perform just as well as the Kumhos Ecstas I removed that were beat to heck.

In fact, yesteday I received the $20 rebate check from Dunlop that I found online.:)

I live in Buffalo and this is my first winter in my MP5 as well! Mine has Kumhos Ecstas on it and they are alright, but I think there is better out there for our climate. If you're already rolling, the Ecstas track well, but when it comes to getting the car moving again...there's a lot of wheel spin in heavy snow. I'm still researching new tires for next winter as well so let's hear what other snow belt MP5s use!

yep.. i use the kumho tires too.. it isn't the best. but for the price and performance i would say no other tires can deliver...

i live on the west side, holland, grand haven area, the place with all the lake effect snow (were getting pounded right now)

anyway about the tires, i will look into them, are the directional? or not, 300 isnt bad price, hopefully they last a while!!

well im seeing different tires, anywhere from 350 otd....all the way up to 500+ otd pricing.....i guess i just want to get what i pay for, i want a good tire that will last especially if i spend that kind of money.....i usually drive really slow, just to keep the mpg up, commute about 10 mile to work, then 10 back

i dont really need a high performance tire, just something that will last, and wont break the bank --- i just came from driving a jeep with aggresive a/t tires, so tire noise im kinda use too...

so many choices
