New RX7 owner!

Or how much other than the enine is better. Limited slip differential, 5 lug wheels, bigger brakes, stiffer suspension, better gearbox, larger and wider tires, cooler sheetmetal, etc.

I already researched the stuff involved. which is why I'm not doing it right now. I'm only considering it, though I do plan to get more power. eventually, next summer I'll figure out how to up the power a little.

I'd suggest runninbg a high power N/A. Responsive, high revving. Get hardened stationary gears, ceramic apex seals, FD corner seals and corner seal springs, new side seals water seals etc. (rebuild stuff) with new rotor housings while she;s all taken apart. Maybe even lightweight rotors (machined and available on www.racingbeat.com). Then go for zippy after that, light weight flywheel, racing clutch. I say utilize the lightweight of the vehicle. gut it as much as possible, keep it a good N/A ,(have a friend make you a custom straight back 2.5" exhaust, catless with a high flow muffler). Lightweight racing wheels, suspnsion, and brakes. After all is said and done, you could have a killer lightweight N/A that revs high into the powerband. Some fual mods, could get your redline to Rx-8 like 9,000 RPM. It seems like a lot of work, and it would be, but damn it'd be fast. (also try and get a convertible's aluminum hood)

Cool sounds like a great rebuild. If I can get maybe another 40 hp n/a I'll actually be very satisfied. As long as I can pass emissions with a couple of cats I'm good.

what !!!! no porting of the engine while you rebuild...even a small street port would do wonders....I have a porting template but it's for HIGH power engine builds.power is that of a big street port and a jport...well anyways good luck on the build. I have owned
74 RX4 Wagon
GS,GSL and 2 83 Limited Edition GSL
85 GSL-SE
2nd gen TurboII and the Tenth Anniversary Model
93 TT 3rd GEN base model at the time the R1-R2 was rediculously expensive...
and though I sold my 3rd gen 3yrs ago I still look...hoping to find a steal

again good luck

Jeremy

BTW I forgot to mention the clutch, tranny and engine feel like they're in great condition. And the car is stock! With the exception of a K&N filter which is really refressing.

I think my car weighs around 2600-2700 based on http://www.getrotord.com/html/rotary_specs.php
Can anyone verify those 0-60 and 1/4 mile times?

I'm not much of a drag racer (prefer the autoX) but would like to know how I'd fair, against my friend's: 03 Tiburon GT, 05 Corolla XRS & 06 Scion tC... Just curiuos.

After some research, looks like if I get the FC running to spec, I'll have a few drivers races on my hands:

Scion tC
0-60 mph : 7.5 sec.(manual)
0- mile : 15.7 sec @ 88 mph(manual)

Hyundai Tiburon GT
0-60 mph : 7.4 sec.(manual)
0- mile : 15.6 sec @ 88.8 mph(manual)

Toyota Corolla XRS
0-60 mph : 7.6 sec.
0- mile : 15.8 sec @ 90.0 mph

& the Mazda RX-7 (FC-S4)
0-60 mph : 7.7 sec.
0- mile : 15.5 sec @87.0 mph

Only thing I don't get is how those FWD cars beat me to 60 and then lose out on the 1/4 mile. Oh well atleast I can't whoop them around the cones. :)

piston engines are naturally higher in toque and at a lower rpm, but rotaries are better in the mid to high rpms. Once a rotary starts spinning it moves. Thats is the simple way of why you win 1/4 mile and not 0-60.

Sweet Thanks for the reply. I'm going to be doing a few things down the road besides suspension.

Staying N/A for now but I'll get atleast I/H/E & Ignition, which I hear help the engine breath alot better. Hopefully that puts me around 160 hp crank. Then It's off to lighten things up a little. Carbon Fiber hood (god the stock hood is heavy!) Loose the spare and get a can of fix a flat lol.... and a lightweight odessey :) Maybe a carbon drive shaft too. Unfortunately I don't know much about Rotary bolt on's lol. Any ECU's out there? That could put me around 175 hp maybe (stock tune is crap I know that much).

I don't know what companies in the states provide ecus, but Knight Sports is a good one in Japan if you can get you hands on an ECU. If you have the money you could get Apex Power FC and Commander
