new owner with question

Hi I got a 2005 Mazda 3 last week and so its really fun! The only problem is that sometimes when I get out the warning bell sounds and thereafter the remote control will not lock the car. ANy ideas? Thanks in advance

its a 5 speed, is there a certain gear it likes to be in to be "parked"? Im not sure if it correlates with the Ebrake being set but I dont think so because I was setting it every time and now Im not and it still "seems" random to me when the sound goes off

The system will not let the car lock when it thinks there's a key in the ignition and the door is open.

Is the functional part of the key heavily worn/chewed up? it's possible that key silica shavings are causing problems. Easy fix is to hit the ignition with some canned air (and consider getting a new "factory" key cut @ the dealership.)

if it's still hosed, there may be a mechanical fault in the ignition assembly due to wear or dirt.
At worst, it might be a computer fault somewhere...

That's all I can think of...

awesome thanks for the reply that sounds like a logical analysis of the problem, I will try the canned air or even possibly the other key they gave me and let you guys know. THanks again for your time!

How can I not help someone with "vettefever" in their call sign.... I actually forgot to give you the vette (hi) -

major error is prob onto something with the key thing....

Oh and congrats on your new ride.. enjoy it (nuances and all)

Turns out it was something with the ignition, thanks for the feedback!

The 85 Corvette Coupe, Medium Blue MEtallic is where the handle came from its my baby, but the Mazda 3 is fun and FUEL EFFICIENT!! Im getting it back from the dealer today and all should be well with it. Incedentially, its fun to switch back and forth between the two, two very very different clutches makes for about a 2-3 minute adjustment period lol!
