new owner of a 6s steel gray metallic hatchback :)....and the fan is dead

My first Mazda, I previously had a 2001 Accord EX 4cyl, loved it but wanted something different this time. I just bought a 6s hatchback:
V6, bose, moonroof, side airbags/curtain, black cloth seats

However the fan for the vent & A/C doesn't work. Is this a common problem? I'm taking my car to the dealer tomorrow to get it fixed.

pics soon after I detail my baby :)

FYI, turns out the fan was disconnected somehow, strange. I just got the car this week too with 57 miles on it.

Congrats on the purchase. I have the same car as you and my fan works, but it makes a funny ticking noise. You can only notice it if you don't have the radio on, but it sort of annoys me. I have heard interior fans in older cars do this often, but this is the first time I have heard it in a new car. I will mention it to the dealer when I get my next oil change, but I have a feeling they will just say that it is normal or some stupid BS like that. Anyone know what causes this and if there is an esay fix?

that must be the auto a/c controls only with the tick cause my manual a/c doesn't have that at all...

whoa....garfinkle....is the noise there and after you turn the a/c on its more often and constant...sounds like the I4 issues....

No, it doesn't have anything to do with the A/C. Anytime the interior fan is running (which is like always for me) you hear it. I'm learning to live with it because it is a pretty faint sound. Haven't had my first oil change yet but I will mention it to them when I do.

I can hear the same ticking noise! I had my oil changed and the PCM recalibrated (recall work) recently, ~900 miles. I don't know if the noise was there before the service or not. I *think* the noise goes away after the fan runs for about 5 minutes or so. I'm going to see on my way home today.

Why was there a recall to recalibrate the PCM? I wonder if I should have been part of this recall seeing as how we drive the exact same car/year.

Sometimes the fan clicking noise is caused by a clogged cabin air filter. These filters are supposed to be replaced every 10,000 miles, and cost around 20 dollars from your dealer.

If the ticking continues with a new filter, then its possible that your fan blower needs to be replaced. In that case, you need to decide if you can live with the ticking sound, or deal with a dealership tearing half your dash apart to get to the fan motor.

I'd stick with living with the ticking sound.

Here's a short article on the cabin air filter, its location, and how to replace it.

if your fan doesn't run constantly or atx shifts aren't all ****** up you should be fine...but couldn't hurt to update

yes...it makes that tick when it's off....turn the interior fan on and it speeds up for stretch and I

ok let me narrow it down a lil bit...

lets say we use 30 second inervals....

engine on X amount of time after being driven (INT)fan off it may tick 8-10 time total

engine on same X amount of time as above after being driven (INT) fan on it may tick 50-65 times almost in a constant state at idle...can't hear it under load with SRI...

*Update*
oh and unless you can proove someting like the tranny bucking or irratic fans they won't update your pcm to current software(rant)
