95 Protege 5spd. and 92 Miata 5spd
hey everyone....im new to this board....just bought my 95 protege 5spd (92k miles) for $2000....i think i got a good deal on it

any way....i just wanted to know if there is anything i should look to replace or check up on? Also....besides the obvious (air intake, exhaust) what engine/ tranny / general mods should i look into completing first?

thanx and hopefully im posting this in the right spot!

Congrats on the new ride. I have a pro 98 DX 1.5L auto. Welcome to the fam.

There's not a lot of mod options for our car. Like you already mentioned the air intake, and cat back exhaust are a definete option.

If you really want some performance gain your best bet is to do an engine swap with a 2nd Gen (1995-98) ES 1.8L[BP engine]. You have a lot more choices then. (turbo, more parts, and so on).

Check out clubprotege.com for more detailed info for our generation. I think it's down right now but check back ever once in a while. Also take a look at the cardomain.com pages of our gen. You might get some nice ideas that way too.

Hope this helps.

bp-de is a 1.8L engine that went in the 2nd gen ES'.

how can i tell if mine is an ES if i dont have any of the badges/stickers?

i do have power everything and 5spd....if that helps (chair)

There should be an ES badge between the door and front wheel well. I don't think sunroofs were options on any of the other cars. 4 wheel disc was standard on the ES and none of the other trim levels had it.

That can't be the only way to tell, is it? Cause if that badge was taken off you should be able to identify the engine easily. Don't you have some distinct features in or around your engine that would show that it's a BP.

I've never seen a BP engine so I wouldn't know.

Just wondering.

yeah...cuz my badge WAS removed....(how? i dunno)....i dont have 4 disc brakes so i guess that counts me out of the ES....but engine wise.....is there a label that shows the 1.5/1.8L displacement?

Don't know if this will help answer your questions but check out this protege FAQ document by Edwin Man (theMAN on clubprotege.com). It has lots of useful information.

Don't remember it having anything to tell you visual dif between the 1.5L and 1.8L, but I might be wrong.

Before i said the bp for 2nd gen had 2.0L but it's actually 1.8L. My bad (hand) . I corrected the previous post.

my engine

here is a pic.....um....now can someone help in telling me what i have?
eBayISAPI.dll

ignore the ad....i just wanna know about the engine

If the 4 disc brakes is a standard for ES models of the 2nd gen, you don't have the BP 1.8L engine.

The engine in the ebay pic looks like mine. Welcome to the 1.5L world.
And here's mine: http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/598558/3

We might be slower but our zoom-zoom attitude is just as strong as the 1.8L world. (yes)
