new owner of 2002 Protege5. Some concerns

Hello all,
I just got this 2002 Protege5 last week with 32K on it. So far i like the car. while reading through the forum so many questions popped up in my mind.
1. The warranty on the car was for 3 yrs right? How come someone of the owners of 2002 still have it under warranty and get the dealer to do the repairs on it. I don't have any warranty left on the car of do i still have power train on this mazda?
2. What is sport-tronic. Mine is auto with "manu-matic" thing. Are these two the same.
3. Where the hell is the notch to open the truck from inside. All I see is to open the hood and the gas cover.
thanks

I'm not 100% about your warranty.
Yep - you've got the "sport-tronic".
As far as a "hatch release" - there isn't one. When your doors are unlocked, so is the hatch. :)

1. no idea - i have no warranty...2002 model with 36k miles
2. no idea - i have 5-speed
3. there is no trunk pop...just grab the handle from the outside and lift.

5 year 50k option. I got it on my 02 P5

Likely the same. I don't have an Auto and can't actually drive without a clutch so I'm guessing.

I don't believe there is one for the P5. At least not in my glove box.

First off, I have a 2003, so perhaps things are different for the 2002 model, but I seriously doubt it as far as the warranty goes.

1) The standard/"base" warranty on the 2003 P5s was 48months/50k miles, according to my car's window sticker (which I went and looked at).

2. Are you talking about this:

If so, thats the "sport-tronic/manumatic/sport-A/t" transmission. Although for some reason, I thought those were only available on the 2003 models. In fact, on the sticker, its listed a "bonus/optional", along with the 100watt subwoofer.

3) I'm 99.9999% there was never an internal release hatch for the P5, any year.

for a while i thought it was only 2003 that got the sport-tronic but like a month or two ago i realized that its a 2002.5 model year and up and not 2003 and up.

i think the 02's came with a 3 year/50K warranty?

i know the 03's had the 4 year/50K warranty!

welcome to the forum.....good choice on the P5!

and keep in mind before your warranty expires you can always opt to get that extended warranty but its kinda expensive

3 year was standard, there was an option to buy the longer one. register on mazda usa website and it will tell you what you have (and notify you of any recalls)

they are the same thing

its a door ... :p so just hit unlock and go open it
