New owner observations/questions on heating/cooling

:
'14 CX9 TouringAWD
Have had my '13 for several weeks and loving it. However, it takes a LONG time to heat up during cold mornings.....like 2-3x longer than my other vehicles. The fan blows fine and I use the recirc button. Also, the vents down by the feet don't put out much air volume on high setting. Are these 2 things normal for this vehicle? Thanks.

Hmmm, it's pretty subjective, but I find the CX-9 heats up just as fast as my old 6 did. It's an aluminum block V6, so it shouldn't take too much time. That, with the heated seats, and perceived warm up time is shorter for me at least.

I usually just leave it on Automatic climate and it turns up and down the fans when it knows it's hot enough. Haven't had any complaints about air volume from the foot well either.

Compared to my wife's iron block 2.0 Turbo GTI, the 9 heats up at least twice as fast. And subjectivley, she says it heats up "WAY faster" than her car.

same problem here.... the heater takes forever to warm up and only works when it feels like it. It actually blows cold air when I'm idling. It only starts to warm up once I'm moving.

Keep an eye on your temp gauge. Most cars blow "cold" until the temp gauge is at a 1/3 (if 1/2 is normal operating temp). Moving will require more revs, hence faster warm up. Idling the car will take quite a bit of time to warm up, because the revs are at or below 1k.

To be honest I agree with Voldsom. Compared to my past Nissan this warms up pretty quick, but compared to the wife's Subaru it's slow. Mine usually takes about 2-5 minutes to get warmed up, if that gives you a gauge.

IMO all mazdas, seem to take forever to warm up, my proteges felt like their heaters were 2x too small for the car..Cx9 is similar, but thank goodness for the heated seats!

Mine warms up pretty fast. It helps to live in Southern CA when it is 70+ degrees outside today. Had to turn the AC on this morning :)

Had to rub it in.

Seems like none of you have driven a TDI Jetta in a Canadian winter... I used to watch the temp gauge start to fall at stop lights hahaha. It took at least 20 mins of driving before the car warmed up if it was -20c or lower.

My wife's Mazda 3 is wayyyy faster. We're waiting on delivery of a CX-9. I'm hoping that it's as good...

Haha, welcome to the forum Portamenti! And that's what I was trying to say up top. Both the TDI and the 2.0T petrol engine in the GTI are a cast iron block (like most VWs). That block takes FOREVER to heat up, and thus warm your coolant up. Only benefit is it stays warm when you stopped, so great for errands. With the aluminum block's in the Ford engines, they should theoretically heat up faster. Of course, the size of the heater core and blower configuration plays a role too. But yeah, I have no complaints on the 9 versus other cars I've been in. Just gotta be realistic and enjoy the seats :)
