2012 Mazda5
Hi everyone,

Not sure if this is the right forum or not but since I'm new I thought I'd post here first. We just picked up our Metropolitan Grey 2012 today and are loving it. It is such a unique vehicle and we look forward to many good years with it.

I've been trying to find out whether I can remove the "Mazda5" on the lower left side of the hatch with just heat and dental floss like I've done on other cars or if there are posts or holes or dimples behind it. If you have done this, could you let me know?

Anyway, looking forward to both driving the car again and participating in this forum.

Thanks!

I did not notice any protrusions from the back of the sheetmetal when I removed the rear panel so it could be that it's just a stick on type.

Why are you removing that? Just curious. We have a 2012 metro gray as well. Just went over 5000 miles on her....
I would like to remove the dealer sticker which is just above the "Mazda 5" on the lower left of the hatch. Let me know how to do that if you don't mind McGuyver!

I am hoping to de-badge just so the rear of the car is more symmetrical, I guess it's personal preference. With the badges I plan to use just a heat gun or blow dryer to heat the badge and some dental floss to get behind it and remove it. As for the dealer sticker I have no idea how to get that off, I just made it clear to my dealer that I wouldn't buy a car with it on. They may have just not put it on during PDI or maybe taken it off afterwards but I don't know about that.

Thanks dieseldriver for the info about what it's like behind the sheetmetal, I'd still like confirmation from someone who has removed the badge that there are no surface holes or dimples on the front. Thanks!

Easy to remove, just get a heat gun which costs about $15 at Harbor Freight Tools made by Chicago, very durable. After heating up a bit, just use your nails to scratch off. After that, just use some pain thinner apply on cloth and wipe off the goo.

I'm pretty sure the days of when they used posts going thru the sheetmetal to hold a logo are over. But you never know. 100% of all the cars i've driven/owned had a double-sided tape thing, just pull it off with your hands, heating it is optional though I would not recommend a heat gun (maybe a blow dryer, or you can do it on a really hot day, same thing). I've taken off logos myself for several reasons, but usually if the car is new that adhesive hasn't had a chance to "dig in" and it comes off the easiest if you take it off ASAP as soon as you buy it and take it home. If you end up causing some light scuffs/scratches by doing this, I've found some McGuire's ScratchX will buff it right out. The key is to peel it off WITH THE ADHESIVE so you don't have that problem, you'll be left with a 100% clean surface.
