Nothing major really, but It seems like my front calipers may be dragging a bit. I'm getting resonance thru the front rotors when pulling away from a dead stop and when driving at around 20 to 25 mph. I've also noticed it's more prevelant on road with lots or crowning in are highs spot on the pads that need to wear off (only 500 miles on the car) or if possibly one of front axle nuts is not tightened to spec and letting the hub assembly run out of true. I guess it could be from an aggressive pad material, but I think someone else would have mentioned that by now. I've turned off the stability control and that has made no difference either.

Also when it's around 40F or below out the second gear synchro is balky when going into gear. No crunching gears, but I can for sure feel that it's not happy and have to wonder what the synchro will be like when the car has 50,000 miles on it. Before anyone mentions it, I'm sure that I have the clutch completely disengaged. I don't know if there is any adjustment on the shift forks or detents in trans like there was in the VW and Volvo transmissions I have rebuilt. It is the transmission and not the linkage, and I can hear it clearly when I put the window down. No issues after it runs long enough to heat the gear oil a bit.

Either way I'm going to ask my dealer to have a look at both issues and note that I've made the complaints in case I end up with warped rotors, a dead wheel bearing or/and a grinding second gear several years down the road.

Anyone else have these issues?

I had this too, but it has gone away. I have heard others with the same effect. It seems to go away when the rotors & pads are fully bedded. Give it some time.

Yeah, my 04 3 would do it every morning when I backed out of the driveway. I'm noticing the noise less and less, so I think the pads bedding in is helping it to go away.

The notchyness in second gear is gone, but is now around 70 here. I may put sythetic gear lube in it before it gets cold again in the fall. I'll probably also get a set of those heavuduty shift linkage bushing. I also want to get a heavy duty rear mount too as I hate how the engine bucks around.

Thanks!

I had the same problems. Only recently did I hear a noise like you described as the rotor rubbing. I'm not sure what it is. I also get another odd noise when turning the steering wheel, which turned out to be my left strut tower mount. Too many problems for a new car, however minor they are.

It has 1000 miles at this point and the brake noise has gone away, so it was probably just the pads bedding in. It still has a bad shift sometimes in the morning when it is cold. Very clunky, it sounds like the old VW 020's I used to rebuild on my work bench, before I put any oil in them. I'm playing with the way I shift it first thing in the morning to minimze the crunch. I will mention it to the dealer, as I have a certificate for a free oil change i will use there when it is time. After the free one I will do it myself....

It probably has to do with the fact that whenever Mazdas sit for a while or it rains, the rotors become bright orange with rust. Then it goas away after you apply the brakes a couple times while driving.

Usually mine would make the brake noise right after getting off the freeway on my drive home from work, when driving on 30 to 40 mph on regular suburban roads. There was no possiblility of rust causing the noise. It's gone away and not come back, so It most likely was just the pads bedding in.

Synchro Problems Here

I have synchro problems on my MS3 which the dealer dismissed. They said they even brought out a Mazda quality control guy. I have been without my car for a week for them to tell me that they can't do anything.

My problem is the 3rd gear synchro. I drive ~60 miles a day in stop and go traffic and 3rd gear will catch at least once during that trip. It boggles the heck out of me. I know it is not me since this is my 3rd car with a manual and I have already put 2500mi on this car.

The dealer said that it doesn't do it for them. I shift to 3rd from ~4000RPM and it doesn't matter whether I sport shift or shift slow (and it has happened both ways). I have only noticed it happening when my AC is on and when it was above 100F outside.

I love my car but I had this problem with my WRX in first gear in which it never got fixed and it killed me when I sold it.

The dealer said that they matched all the variables that I assigned to them. The only thing left is the weather. It has been 70-90C when they had the car. Could temperature make a difference?

It's not made any crunching noises going into 2nd gear since it warmed up for summer, though when I drive with the window down I don't like the sound the selectors and shift forks make when going into second gear from first. If it does make gringing noises again when it gets cold out then it will be making a trip to the dealer for further inspection.
