I was on the road & track website and happened to stumble upon this... not sure how i feel about this...

"And while on the subject of Mazda, there’s a strong rumor that the delightful MP3 sedan (see our November cover story) is getting an engine upgrade. Mazda is reportedly testing a “hot” version of the car that should make at least 180 bhp. This “stage-two” version of the MP3 will probably be available in the marketplace sometime next year."

If that happens I will be the first in line for one of those 180hp MP3's. Dont get me wrong I love my 2001 MP3, but all that extra hp puts a smile on my face.

This is just a rumor. The turbo part is closer to truth than it being called an MP3.

If there is a turbo version it'll be an MPS (Mazda Performance Series) car.

Look at the bright side, if they do a turbo, it'll be on the 2.0 liter. That means factory parts for us.

If the car is turbo, then it's cool. If they make 180 HP with a NA car, then there wouldn't be much I would want from it. They would probably bump up the compression to about 10.5:1, which is bad for us going the turbo route.

I am almost certain it would be NA.

refer to the Mazda 3 topic. It has much of the stuff you were talking. There will be no more MP3 AND no more Protege. Only a mazda 3 in quite a few trim levels. The top level being the "mp3 stage 2" though that's not what they are going to call it.

Damn that thing is ugly. Anyhow, I remember us discussing the article in Road & Track a while back. It's unbelievable how many rumors there are flying around about the next MP3/MPs or whatever they're gonna call it. If they come out with another one though, one thing is for sure....I won't buy it. I'd rather have an Audi, IS300 5-Speed or something with more power from the factory. Possibly an RSX Type-S even though it's bandwagon material.

Hey, I didn't particularly like the headlights on the new Mazda3 (but the car is pretty nice overall, I like that low but long look, it's pretty cool) so I used my completely amateur Photoshop skills to do some photo-chopping. IMO, it looks better :) Please don't puke when some glaring mistakes show up.

Crap, those image links don't work. So, here's the url. Copy and paste it! http://www.angelfire.com/ar3/bored/mazda3_edited.jpg
