"New" Mazdaspeed6 Sport owner

Got one from Florida on the eBays; Black Cherry; 72k miles; Came with a front mount intercooler; custom magnaflow 3" catback; $10,500; bought a dashhawk for logging.

Fun car! I think I got a pretty good deal. Gonna take it to the mechanic this week to give it a look. It came with a fantastic power steering leak and a tremendously undersized battery: literally, the thing was bouncing around in the tray.

The exhaust has a straight tube from the downpipe all the way to a single muffler that exits out the right tip. Left tip is kinda naked and looks weird. It creates a terrible resonance: like, all the plasics in the interior shake like mad. Any suggestions? I was thinking of puting in a splitter and having a resonator where the drivers side muffler was.

Glad to be here!

Is it a racing battery? He was probably heavily modded and switched to a smaller battery.

Anyway congrats and welcome to the forums. What is rattling? The inside dash of the car?

Honestly I think the sound and vibration is primarily a resonance from the exhaust. Real low and intense. Also I think it might be one or two motor mounts or something. I can see the headlights vibrate at idle.

The battery isn't race, it an unbranded cheapo that the dealer probably threw on last minute.

Like you said it could be the mounts...you could get a lower duro mount to replace them for less vibes. If that is even the problem...if the exhaust is doing it, leave it, thats just BA.

Some people have found that just extending the exhaust tip about an inch out of the bumper helps lower the resonance drastically. Sounds silly but I've witnesses this in person on a local car, a lot of added sound and vibration from the void in the underside of the bumper.

PICS!!! and welcome to the MS6 and 247 forums!!!

once you get through the small hiccups/repairs, i guarantee you will LOVE this car!
Where you from btw?

thats my favorite color for the ms6, good luck with it.
also going to point out it looks like he had a triple gauge pod in the middle compartment above the radio display and left wires there too.

yeah I noticed that and forced the dealer to fix it before he sent it. no doubt previous owner had some other mods on it, probably parted it before lease was up. Car feels awesom though, despite a possible troubled past. Gonna get
my power steering setup looked at tomorrow.

Had some spirited driving after a light rain yesterday. Very difficult to get this car to break traction. AWD in the house! Whew when my 540 would break in a turn it would go all the way around. 300 lbs of stereo equipment behind the rear wheels didn't help.

Exhaust mani!?!?? Naw. Stock.

Does this forum have a "name that part" section with pictures of the engine bay and Arrows with names for all the parts? So many sensors and wires and vacuum lines everywhere I just have no idea what I'm looking at.

STOCK!?!? wtf, doesnt look stock comparred to mine...

you can google for the MZ6 2.3 engine, you can usually find schematics with labels.

Took it to reputable (yelp.com) mechanic. Oil and filter change n such. Said rear diff oil is nasty, valve cover gasket is leaking, rear exhaust hanger is broke, and that's it. Says it's it good shape. He said nothing is wrong with power steering.

Ordered gasket for $22 shipped, and some amsoils for center diff / trans, and rear diff. And a hand pump. Good stuff.

Gonna replace the plugs with denso iridiums when I change out the gasket.

Mmmm, question: headlights are pretty scummy on the inside. Are these sealed or can I pop off the plastic and clean it up? Or, can I break the seal, clean, and reseal?
