New Mazda3 owners!

My parents just moved here from the UK and they wanted to a buy a car. The were set on getting a four door hatchback (they owned a Peugot 205 in the UK). So the choices came down to:
A: Toyota Matrix
B: VW Golf
C: Mazda3 Sport
D: Ford Focus

Today they the Maxda3 Sport. They are 66 and 61, and went for the GT model with 17" wheels and all, the only option they didn;t get was the moonroof and leather. Its an auto like my P5, but they were not interested in a stick. Now I have access to a Mazda3 :) And I am jealous of my parent's car!

Just thought I'd share the story as I think its neat that my 60-something parents are closet ricers... well you know what I mean. Now to see if my Dad wants to do any mods...

Sorry...

Is the Mazda 3 Sport GT a hatch (5DR) or sedan(4DR) in Canada?

Either way congrats on your P's new wheels. You will have to seek out and drive the crap out of it to compare it to the P5....

The Mazda3 Sport is the 5 dr hatchback version, the non-sport is the 4 dr sedan and is just called the Mazda3.

The Sport comes in two flavours, GS and GT, both of which feature the 2.3L engine. The GT is ~US$900 more and adds rear spoiler, 17" wheels, cruise, anti-theft system, leather steering wheel, 6 speaker audio and power-heated mirrors. Quite a lot of upgrades for only USD$900 if you ask me.

I am eagerly awaiting delivery as I want to test it out against my P5. I test drove the Mazda3 with my parents and was impressed with the extra oomph the Mazda3 has over the P5.

I noticed the specs and model line-up are pretty different between US and Canada. For example, the ABS is standard on the Canadian model, but appears to be an option on the US model. The US 5 door model onloy comes in the one model whereas the Canadians get the cheaper GS and the better equipped GT.

I know

Wierd isn't it.. (werd)

My understanding is that the Canadian Mazda3 also has autoheadlights and other little extras that we don't even have an option to get.. But I have had mine for over a week and LOVE it.. It was a GREAT deal for the money..

BTW.. My first post..WooHoo!!!!

What are autoheadlights? Do you mean daytime running lights? If so, thats the law in Canada. What other features do you know of that are no on the US version. I am curious now...

No.
Auto headlights are headlights that come on automatically based on ambient light conditions (when it gets dark), not daytime running lights.

Canada also has rain-sensing wipers and heated outside mirrors, which are not available in the US.

you can find part#s and get one of the many canadians that frequently visit here to order them for you.. and wire them to the rear window defrost....not shure if the 6 mirrors are the same as the 3 cause thats part of the heated leather seat package for us...
