New Mazda3 not starting on first attempt

I have a brand new mazda3 with 1200 miles on it.
When I start it after about 12 hours rest, it sometimes doesnt start. The engine turns and then shuts off. I can immediately turn the car back on again and it runs fine. I dont think that the cold has anything to do do with it because I live in california and it doesnt get that cold. I have also had the problem in the afternoon.
I read somewhere that it could be related to a fuel pump. Any suggestions?

Um, how about taking it back to the dealer?

Checked on Identifix, but I'm not finding specific failure information on this one. I did find a TSB on older 3's for a hard start when full of fuel. This is related to a poor purge solenoid, and Mazda issued a TSB for it. Other then that, I can't find anything related.

Do you have a 3 2.0, 2.3, or MS3?

I imagine when I take it to the dealership they wont be able to duplicate the problem as it doesnt happen everyday.

Still take it and let them know that there is an issue your having whether it happens there or not.

We had a Similar problem with our 2007 Nissan Murano. What would happen is that the computer would "forget" the most ideal settings startup at cold temperatures, and as a result, the car would stall at startup time. The cure for THAT instance was a firmware upgrade for the ECU. Oddly, the engine light never came on.
