2003 Protege5
Hey All,

I just picked up a 2003 Protege5 that seems like it was tracked or riced and am pretty excited about having a car to work on again. Don't have pics now as its late but will post if that's what this forum is about.

About Me:
I am a late 20s engineer in socal that knows nothing about cars and a whole lot about video games and beer. My condo doesn't allow me to work on cars which means I work on cars late at night.

About my cars:
I started on a b15 Sentra with an SR20DE that was in baaaaad shape. The car would barely run and when it ran, it had no power. After 2 weeks of getting dirty with the car and putting about 500 into it in parts, I got the sucker running. After moving to San Diego 2 years later, the car was involved in a hit and run and it hurt my hear to look at it. I sold it for a hawkeye WRX.

The WRX still sits in my driveway and is solid. I got into tuning a little but with strict emissions laws in California, I don't want to do any engine mods. I am stuck with stock parts playing with a Tactrix tune so all I have done is comfort and suspension mods. I have a Bilstein setup with Kartboy bushings everywhere.

The Protege:
I have been looking for a second car to be a daily so that I can play more with the WRX and I found this little gem on Craiglist listed at 3100 with 129,000 miles on it. It looked rough but I've always loved Mazdas. My dream car is still a good condition '88 FC3S. The car was in rough shape from the 'private party' seller. It had a weird idle problem and was completely repainted. There are gopro mounts all over, A/C switch is broken (position 4 does not work) and does not blow cold, idle surge when the break is active (RPM swings from 1-1.5k). It also came with Megan coilovers and a CAI which combined with the gopro mounts and racing stickers and broken dildo shifter means it was rallyxed or the previous owner was a total ricer. I also found out when paying for the car that it was a dealer auction car and that the guy I bought it from knows nothing about cars (yeah right). After some heated negotiations, I got the car for 2300 and all problems included.

I can't wait for tomorrow pull off half the interior to replace the headunit and fix the A/C issues, and remove intake to clean everything out and hopefully knock out the idle surge.

Car turned out to be a lemon. There was major frame damage that wasn't apparent until removing the front bumper. Intake manifold has a bad leak. Just gonna non-op the car and try to sell for parts.

Calling dibs on the coils sir!
