2008 Mazdaspeed3 Metro Gray
Hi from Texas. Just picked up my 08 MS3 GT in Metropolitan Grey yesterday and love it. Kind of curious how one defines an 08.5 model year? Have seen quite a few listed here as such and am curious if mine fits into that segment.

Looks like an informative site. Said goodbye to the Audi yesterday site and ready to plant some roots here.

Cheers!

Welcome! Yours is actually an 08.5 since yours is in Metropolitan Gray. The '08.5 GTs have the black Alcantara inserts in the seats, piano black trim inside, white gauge needles, and a Mazdaspeed3 logo above the glove box. Your color along with the white replaced Cosmic Blue and Silver I believe.

Welcome to da group.

Yep, she's a '08 1/2 alrighty. Watch your wallet -- we can spend it pretty damn fast.

Yeah, money doesn't seem to have any desire to stay in my wallet long. I'm restoring a 1971 Chevy pickup too, so the M3 and the pickup will have to play nice.

So, what would you guys say is the "can't live without mod"? Understanding there are probably a few, but curious.

Thanks!

Must have? Window tint. Makes a big difference here in Florida and very likely Texas, as well. I'm partial to the Vent Shades. Some folks don't like 'em.

Kinda depends on whether you want go-fast or some more cornering fun. Go-fast is probably an intake. Apparently, you can spend a fair chunk of change for not much paper improvement (Cobb AP). Or not so much for a more bang-for-the-buck (Cobb or other SRI) mod. Cornering would be a sway-bar. The rear is an easy install, the front is a bit more ambitious.

In any event, have fun. They're fairly easy to work (so far for me, at least).

Hey, welcome to the Mazdaspeed community!! I would say go with a CAI, unless you really want a SRI, the CAI is the way to go, personally, I think it looks much better under the hood too.

Which way do you plan on going with the car? Either way, replace the BOV asap, some people will argue to keep the stock one because it doesn't make a difference, but I have a boost gauge, and a butt dyno, and both showed me I was holding boost a Million times better and now my butt dyno can prove that claim. If you don't want the ricer loud BOV, get a synapse like I got, it sounds like stock, but works great.

... or "which intake?" or "how much did you pay?". Seriously.

Thanks for the replys. Fortunately, probably for me, and for you, I'm a big boy and understand the functionality of the "search" feature. Also adept at "shopping" for parts. I can make independent decisions and don't find it necessary have a quorum before I make a move on my personal auto.

However, there are nuances to every automobile, so what I did first to my previous car, may not be necessary to do to my current car, which is where you guys come in. :)

Really appreciate the help and experience you all have with the M3. I will naturally steer clear of any warranty voiding mods for a little while. Bad experience in the past. My father always told me education was expensive, naive me thought he was talking about college, but that was the cheap lesson.

Anyway, will probably look into CAI first as an engine is nothing more than a big air pump and more to breath=~more to pump. I want to spend some time getting to know the ride before I go crazy modding it. It's definitely a blast to drive and I've already had a few MS3s pull up next to me and honk, so it seems like a nice little community is being established.

Safe driving!

Peace.
