Hey everyone, glad to join the board. I just got a used 2003 Protege ES. Its silver with all the options and has 40k miles. The car is great but it seems to be burning gas pretty fast. I cruise on the highway most of the time but whats the best wasy to get the gas mileage back. Is there any engine services that you think would help? Thanks guys.

1st of all weclome to the forums! I hope you'll find this place as entertaining and informative just as the rest of us do.

2nd. How many miles to the full tank do you get?

Havent measured from full tank yet. It seems like every two days I go through a quarter tank of gas.

howdy, welcome to the forum. usually changing your spark plugs/wires, air filter, fuel filter, oil, and just typical maintance things will improve your gas milage.

but yeah measure it from a full tank, maybe it's not as bad.. how hard do you drive it?

I would say 40-45 miles a day. Averaging 65 mph in mostly highway miles. Whats the average MPG for the 03 auto?

hmm. I drive about 80-100 miles each day averaging at 80 mph...mostly on the highway and I get about 380-420 miles on full tank. That comes out to an average of 32mpg.

Welcome to the forums (thumb)

My avg mpg is about 27. but I drive it like i stole it most of the time. i figure whats the point of going from point A to point B if its not fun along the way.

like mentioned above, make sure all your normal maintainance is done (air filter, oil changes, spark plugs, pcv, etc) this will keep the engine spinning like it should be, without having to work harder

welcome to the familia!!!

i go to the gas station about once a week, getting about 300 miles to the tank.
