2012 Mazda 2 Sport
Sup guys.. New to the forums.
My name is Seth Phelps (yes.. like the swimmer.) I just turned 21, (drinks) and my first car was a 1992 Mercury Capri XR2 and about to sell it. Anyway, I just got my 2nd car 2012 Mazda2 Sport January this year at 1,600 miles and I freakin love it. I'm new to the car modding thing but now that I have a car worth modding I'm really getting into it. I'm basically trying to make my car fast in the cheapest way possible but not afraid to lay down some cash since I'll be keeping this babe for 10+ years or so. . . And I have a good job (Grady EMS) and still live with my parents so I don't have any responsibility yet. LOL

So far I've purchased

Corksport's SRI/CAI
Stubby antenna
Racing Beat's muffler
AWR Lower Dog-Bone engine mount
cheapo hubcaps (which actually makes it go faster. . xD)
And Corksport's Sway bars and short shifter plate in the mail.
(nana)

SO YEAH GUYS FOLLOW ME ON INSTAGRAM. I ALREADY MET FONT HAHA.

Oh yeah, and sub my youtube if you want. I don't usually post anything though. heh
But here's my car after installing SRI/CAI with Racing Beat's Muffler.

Thanks guys! Glad to be here! Love this car.
I don't have many tools so just been doing mostly easy upgrades, but I plan on lowering it and that's about it.

I'm interested in the ecu re-flash though. Definitely seems worth it, but I just don't know enough to pull the trigger.

Hello I am new to the forum as well. I would like to know your opinion of the Racing Beat Muffler as well as the Corksport intake mods. Is there any difference you can feel? As far as the muffler goes I was looking for something with a little more throaty sound but not too loud do you think this muffler fits the bill?

Welcome Dozo! The CS intake and duct definitely add up to a substantial improvement in acceleration and throttle feel. I bought them at separate times, and I could feel a positive difference with each part added. I don't know what those add up to in terms of actual hp, but just daily driving, you will really notice the difference. In a car with only 100hp, even adding something as little as 5hp is very noticeable. I also have the CS exhaust, and I have never dyno'd the car, but I'm guessing with the intake, duct and exhaust you're looking at somewhere around 8-10 hp gain (according to CS dyno results) depending on your car. That's nearly 10% more power. It definitely transforms the car.

Hey Dozo, sorry little late response, I work weekends, but I agree with inspekt. Having driven stock then installing the Racing Beat muffler and CS sir/cai at the same time, I could feel a pretty large improvement. No idea how much though, but feels way quicker picking up. I saw some youtube videos saying that intakes don't do anything but for my common sense thinking I think logically it can only improve airflow.

For the sound of the engine I'd say it sounds awesome! wayyyy better. Not too loud really, but loud enough to show off your engine and go zoom zoom. lol..
The only downside which isn't much really is the inside cab noise is sort of loud just being stock and adding the exhaust just makes it louder. but highways or cruising speeds not bad at all. I'd recommend it!

Setheroine, Mazda2Dozo & inspekt....

I know its not a zoom zoom 1.5 like you all have over there but my icle 1.3 (74bhp standard) zoom zoom has a nice improvement from stock....

CorSport SRI (didnt have the cold air duct on at the time of dynoing) 2" stainless cat-back....

Fitted the SRI & Duct to my wifes car (Tamura 84bhp), definitly feel the pickup better & cabin noise from the SRI is awsome....

Shaun...

cosh68/Setheronie/inspekt,

Thank you for your responses. I bought this car as my daily commute car to work to replace my old Elantra. I wanted something affordable. I got what i think is a good price for this car and in this price range I think it is the only car with any 'zoom ..zoom'. I knew this car was no barn burner when I bought it but its peppy and I prefer a car that handles well over raw power anyway. Do any of you have any input regarding the handling upgrades offered for this car? Strut brace, rear and front sway bars? The front strut brace and thicker sway bar look like they should be effective. The rear bar looks like a gimmick to me. Not sure how just bolting a rod in the middle a sheet metal U channel is going to do anything for flexing considering there only to small contact points (the bolt heads). Anyway once again your input would be appreciated.

P.S...still thinking about the Corksport rear bar....what might be effective is creating another (thicker) sheet metal U channel that slips inside the stock one and bolts in place reinforcing it along the entire span between the bolts and not just the contact points...just a thought

The rear beams work great. They have been done on other twist beam rear axle cars for years. The channel is a U shape so it can flex. Bolting the rods inside increase the stiffness a lot. I have tested it for stiffness with the one I made. As far as the mounting, you torque the bolts to 50-60 ftlbs which yields a large clamping load (~almost 10,000lbs)so those bars aren't going anywhere, but twisting.

OK...thanks for the explanation. Makes sense now.

Welcome to the group!

If that was directed at me.. thanks glad to have found this forum. I was reading the mods you made on your 2 (off your website) in your initial write you you listed a hatch back brace. Was this product discontinued? Your company offers affordable mods to improve this cars handling. With the stock springs / shocks in place how much improvement can I expect by installing your sway/ torsion bar/ and strut brace?

Thanks in advance.

We killed off the brace, it could have been better and the time to invest to build a new one would make it really pricey.

The torsionbar/swaybar work well together and really change the handling. Besides good tires they do alot for the 2 in the handling department.

OK..thanks

Dozo, I haven't done anything to my suspension (Stock wheels, springs, and struts) but I got CS front and rear swaybars and HOLY MOTHER OF *** It's amazing now. LOVEEEEEEEEEE it.

I installed the Rear Torsion bar Monday first thing in the morning (since it was the easiest and had an errand to do that day) And it helped a good bit! BUT after I installed the front swaybar Monday night with the rear man it transforms your car into a racing machine. Wayy more solid, wayy less body roll, on highways the wind doesn't kill you as much either. Highly recommend it.
