New CX-9 Owner, Some Quick Thoughts after 2 weeks

Just got an 08' CX-9 GT in Copper Red w/ Sand Interior and just loving my new Mazda. It took 3 months to finally get my car delivered from Hiroshima Japan, but it was well worth the wait. My 2 yr old loves watching the DVD in the back seat and my wife feels that the Blind Spot Monitor was a great option to have since she hasn't gotten used to driving such a big vehicle. Speaking of big vehicles, it took an entire day to rearrange the garage just to accomodate the larger dimensions of the CX-9.

Some quick wish list items and thoughts after two full weeks of use:
* What's up with the 16-bit Nintendo style Nav Display in 2008? My Palm Treo uses TomTom and it has better resolution and functionality than the factory Nav on the CX-9.
* Doors don't lock automatically after going above a certain speed.
* Wish they put the lock/unlock buttons on the rear passenger door handles.
* Where is the trip computer? Australian version has it.. why can't ours?
* Large vehicle, but relatively smallish center console.. My old Accord had more space and storage under the center armrest.
* A small dropdown mirror from the sunglass holder (a la Honda Odyssey/Pilot) to check on the kids in the back would had been nice.

One thing that my wife noticed when we test drove a CX-9 GT, was that when the ignition was shutoff, the heads up Dash Display showed a message, "Good Bye". Our CX-9 doesn't do that.. do other people's CX-9 show a message when starting/shutting it off? (scratch)

None of these items were dealbreakers when we decided to buy the CX-9. It was hands down the best CUV in the market that not only look great, but it also fit our needs perfectly.

Another happy Zoom Zoom owner! (drive)

We also get the Goodbye with our GT. It was delivered in early Feb 08, maybe they changed something around in the last month or so?

The middle console is quite small when you start trying to put stuff away. My wife was hoping to store her purse in there, and it's not even close to fitting.

I also get the "Goodbye", and I just have the sport model
with the Bose stereo.

Thanks.. I checked and it does indeed display "Goodbye" when the ignition is shutoff. (I should had looked before stepping out of the car so fast)

However, I don't get the "Hello".. instead I get "BOSE SOUND"....
Do people with the GT w/ Bose get a "Hello" or the "BOSE SOUND"?

"BOSE SOUND" and "Goodbye" here!

Australia only has 2 models ...."Classic" and "Luxury", mine is the later

Console

Although the console is pretty massive the storage space is limited because lurking beneath the console is the hardware for the rear heating and cooling system including the coils for the A/C and heat as well as a blower motor and duct work.

I get Bose Sound and Goodbye displayed.

Heya S4Sammy, congratulations of the new CX9! it's a great vehicle, huh?

What is your and your wife's opinion of the functionality of the Blind Spot Monitor?

Thank you! =) Lovin' every minute with the CX-9!
My wife is relatively petite and has a hard time driving such a large vehicle. When she drives on the Interstate, she has a great view of the road, but a tough time seeing smaller cars in her blind spots. The BSM helped alert her of a oncoming Mercedes SLK roadster the other day. She thinks it's a MUST HAVE safety accessory and its a good thing we opted for it. We originally wanted a Liquid Plat/Sand CX-9 (that color combo has been discontinued and impossible to find), but it didn't have the BSM which we thought was important to have. As a result we decided on our 2nd color combo (Copper Red/Sand) with the BSM and other bells and whistles.

Choosing color over function... Mazda sure hit the demographics right!!! Smart people making smart choices... Cx9 Welcome to the club!

You mean function over color...

Thanks S4Sammy for your feedback. I am finding more and more that the BSM function on the CX-9 is a very important feature and that more and more people are growing to appreciate the assistance.

Continue enjoying your CX-9! it is a great car.
