New Bose Stereo Problems

8.5 CWP MS3 in PHX, AZ having same issues. With BASS at -6 and ALC off, BASS cuts in HEAVY,,,,,randomly, but generally when driving. Dealer already replaced radio and it still does it so I have another diag. visit with the dealer soon. When the BASS cuts in and I change the volume at either location it drops back out. This occurs on my non Bose single CD radio, on radio or MP3 input. It sounds like a ground issue or crossed signal in a wire bundle. Hopefully it will be resolved. Thanks for your blogs.

Well I'll be damned, thats backwards as hell. Didn't even think that the bass might cut in when you have it turned down. Everything I've heard has been the bass cutting out, lol. Weird

Say I were to get this taken care of, how can I verify that they're replacing the radio with a brand new one and not a refurbished unit?

Also, does the entire unit get replaced (meaning, the entire piece from the dash? Or is it just the brain behind the control panel that gets replaced?)

no the face place plugs into the unit. So you will keep that same unit. Also you will notice a difference with the sound and to make sure they put the Bose back, when you turn your car on it will say Bose on the display. But I heard that stereo wont even come on unless it is a Bose unit and if you only have Bose components.

I have the stereo problem that is plaguing new owners of 2008.5 Mazda 3s. Try the pause/play button.. does it work for you? The "random" button?

My service guy says he never heard of this issue. I gave him info from this thread and also a similar thread in another forum.

I called Mazda Canada a few days ago - they knew nothing of this issue.

Cheers!

I said hell with it and put an Alpine head unit in. Problem solved, 400 + miles of driving and no more bass cutting out.

Hi. I'm curious. Could you post pictures of this modification?
1. Does the display still work? (Clock, Amb. Temp, Fuel display).
2. Can you use the steering wheel audio controls?
3. What about using an iPod?
4. How hard was that to do? How much $$?

Thanks!

This is a 2008.5 Mazdaspeed 3, a mid year refresh for this model.

When you turn the volume from 35 to 34 you lose all bass. At other sound levels the bass sometimes just suddenly dissapears. This with the ALC on or off. It is not dependant on car speed either.

yeah i have a 2008.5 in black...the volume gets real loud when you go from 34 to 35...the bass cuts in and out by itself...my alc doesn't even work...so i guess they want everyone to drive around with a radio that doesn't work right...

yea......hopefully they will fix the problem.

Well, I got an appointment with the dealer tomorrow. Unfortunately the service manager hadn't heard of the issue and said there wasn't a tsb for it. So we'll see how it goes, I'll let yall know.

yea im in the same boat over here. once this tsb comes out i will go in and get it fixed, but i need to get my windsheild fixed also...dam creeking

What is the ALC even supposed to do? I thought it's supposed to get louder with revs. I have mine on ALC Level 3, and it just made all the sound a little louder. Even at a stand still it's the same volume, doesn't really increase with speed.

And yeah Ghost -- creaking on mine too.

It increases the volume with speed. Most noticable on ALC level 3. I notice it most around 40mph.

Also, I stopped by my dealership today guys. Said they'd have to call Mazda corporate to find out about the issue to see what they can do. I'm supposed to hear back from the guy tomorrow or the next day.

That's weird I don't notice the increase at all. It just ups the general volume up but not more with speed? Weird.

Man try playin with it somewhere around 40mph, I'm sure eventually you'll notice it. I remember the first time I noticed it, I was like WTF!? Then I figured out it was changing with speed, then it clicked. Thats what ALC is! But yea, keeping dickin with it, im sure you'll hear the volume change with speed eventually. Mine also ups the general volume too.

While I was picking up my plates today at Mazda South in Austin, TX, I talked to the service manager about my Bose stereo issues. He told me that he already knew what was up (thanks to baluuMS3) and ordered a replacement head unit, no questions asked...well, he did want to see my Mac Mini install when the new head unit arrives. (lol2)

If you have any issues with your 2008.5 Bose (or non-Bose) stereo, let your dealer know about it ASAP. The more reports that the dealerships get, the sooner everyone will get working stereos (in theory).

I just picked up my 2008.5 black speed3 and it's doing this. I noticed it immediately. My first thought was a loose wire somewhere, but as soon as you hit volume up or down on the steering wheel the bass comes back immediately for a little while. This tells me it's software

I Am In Toronto, Canada, Have Had My Mazda3 Sport For A Few Weeks And Have The Exact Same Bose Problem - Again, No-one At Mazda Want's To Know Anything About It! I've Contacted Mazda Canada And My Dealer - Hopefully The Problem Will Be Fixed!

Everyone Contact Mazda!

I just got back from the dealership. My Bose head unit has now been replaced. The problem appears to be solved, and it only took three days from report of the issue to resolution. All a dealer has to do is order a replacement head unit. I waited while they performed the swap. Even thought they were busy, it only took 30 minutes.

Lucky, it's been 3 days since i reported my issue. I called them today and they still haven't even called mazda to find out about the issue! My dealership seems not to really care.

This is great news!

So is the new unit a lot better? Full bass and clarity, steady volume levels etc....

Sorry about all the questions....I'm jsut jealous. :p

What exactly do we need to tell the dealer? Just replace the HU with one that has been updated?
