NEMOC Random BS Thread

If I'm short on time I take trail that goes along the CT river from the Loomis Chaffee School up to the Hartford Landfill. It's a minute from my house, takes about 30-45 mins to do a loop and is stupid easy. But it's flooded half the time because it's literally ON the river.

If I've got spare time I usually go to the West Hartford Reservoir or up to Jenn's neighborhood and do the Metacomet Trail.

One day I'm gonna ride that thing from the Route 20 area all the way down to the Reservoir...they actually do connect. Make a whole day even out of it. About 20 miles there and back

Cool. Are they 'dog friendly' trails?

I think the Metacomet trail is technically hikers only...so yes, but I haven't been there in a few years (injury kept me off the bike most of last summer).

You're best bet is, by far, the West Hartford Reservoir. There's a large section of paved walking paths specifically for walking/jogging/running (bikes are permitted as long as you stay in the bike lane). It's gets busy sometimes so a leash is required.

Once you get off the pavement and into the back woods it's bikes only. As far as the leash goes, I'm sure it's still required, but there's nobody out there to enforce it (unless you get some other biker pissed off). You wouldn't want to be biking those trails with one hand holding a leash anyway...I don't think it's possible.

If you are trying to lose weight, hard liquor is not the way to go, stick with beer or better, red wine.

Got my Cannondale Mtn bike for sale if anyone is interested. NEPOC discount applies. PM me. ;)

My boss is watching over my work again.

Luke,

Ignore the 2nd page, it's on the other side of Route 44 and it sucks...off limits to bikes anyway.

Yellow and Red paths are paved, all the runners/joggers/walkers stick to those. All those other lines are biking paths of various difficulty.

Notice the "Pets" section on the first page, leash required, blah blah blah. They actually will ticket you for violations. Personally I've never seen a biker there with a dog so I don't really know if it's okay to let him go off the leash once you get off the pavement.

If you had to hold the leash the entire time I'd say don't bother going off the pavement. You won't get far with one hand on the bike and the other on the dog.

Edit: Notice the Metacomet Trail runs right through the West Hartford Reservoir? That's what I'm planning at some point this year...starting in Granby and riding the Metacomet alllll the way down to West Hartford and then back up.

no mtn biking for me...road biking only.

I can't wait to get back out on mine. I've been sooo crazy busy with things that have come up with work and broken cars that I just look at them sitting in the basement.

I'll stop down at biker edge in Bristol and see my buddy there to get some trails. I have been to the reservior before and they are strick about the leash. Hopefully I'll find some near Bristol/Burlington that are wooded trails (paved are too boring) and I can take my dog.

Oooo thanks for the reminder Josh... I can walk to the Farmington River from my condo, it's practically in the backyard. I've been thinking about kayaking.

This is what I use to find places...

http://bikerag.com/mountain bike trail reviews.htm

Scroll down, click Connecticut then at the top click NEW RIDE LOCATOR MAP and it'll show you a mapquest-style layout with icons for each place you can click on and read reviews and view maps.

For your area it looks like either Mount Southington or Nassahegon State Park. I've heard/read good things about Nassahegon, but being a state park I'm sure all the pet-laws apply.

In high school when I raced we used to just though the bikes in the 4runner (yes I had one in high school too) and find new trails. I know so many of them down along the shore.
I'll have to dig up some pictures from us back in the day.

You forgot something....

But I guess you'd have to go to the Gold Club for those?

You know, I really don't like strip clubs.

call me old fashioned, but I really don't want to pay $20 a pop for some strange syphilitic woman to smack me in the face with silicone enhanced scarred funbags.
