Someone offered me a 2004 Silver RX8 w/ a Racing Beat intake and SSR wheels. Leather interior, alarm system, moon roof and 41,000 miles. For my car + $2000. It's my friends dad and he wants something more economical yet still sporty. My car as it stands ihas 17,000 and is the 07 3i (crank windows and manual locks) sportlines and the SPC rear camber kit. Also, this is my 1st car ever, and I'll have a hard time dealing with that! What do you guys think?

My opinion: go for it! Obviously make sure it has a clean carfax, etc... Also be fully aware that you'll be in for a shock at the pump as compared to your 3, but I say it's worth it.

If it was not for the fact that the car is owned by your friends father, I'd say go for it. Mixing that kind of biz is dangerous. So you both own these cars? Any warranties?

We'll this was actually the first time I had ever hung out with him. I don't ever see him so if something were wrong I wouldn't be afraid to lay it on the line, if that's what you're getting at. But only my car I would imagine has a warranty as his is a 2004 @ 41,000K

I dont wanna scare u or anything but be prepared to learn about the rotary befor making the leap into one. And i say that as in maintance is a high priority and needs to be done routinly. other than that WOW not a bad trade off the intake alone is $336 and the wheels depending on style could make up the rest of that 2g do u happen to kno wthe fitment like 19x9 or what not.

I'd go for it. IMO that sounds like a trade in your favor. Like said above, just be prepared to stay on top of maintanance. Check your oil when you fill up the gas tank. The renesis burns oil on purpose, as all rotaries...

The mazda 3i is about as economical as you can get, and to go from that to an RX8, you would be increasing your cost per mile ~3X to 4X . This is considering not only the extra fuel, but also the extra insurance, maintainance, and cost of wear items like tires, brakes, plugs, etc. If you are under 25, check insurance rates before you buy.(omg)

That being said, if you want a true drivers car, with awesome handling, superb braking, not to mention the thrill of a 9k rpm rotary, this deal sounds pretty hard to pass up. Also in my opinion the value of the 3i will drop further than the RX8 in the next couple years, in 2010 the RX8 will be worth ~10-11k, where as the 3i will be 7-8k.

If the car is clean and has a clean title, no body or paint work that is good, if it is original owner, and you trust the friend/father, that is even better. But as stated earlier, when you deal with friends and family, make certain that it is as is with no hard feelings if something goes wrong.(protest)
