I found a guy here in my area(no, I'm not giving away my secrets), who is willing to sell me his '93 RX7 for $8k. Here's the deal on it
-93k Miles
-Motor, Turbos, and trans replaced at 77k miles
-AUTOMATIC
-Sunroof(or moonroof, don't really know)
-Recently had nose repainted(colors don't match too well)
-Bose premium sound
-Tires have less than 500 miles on them
-he is the second owner
-Completely Bone Stock

Now is this a good deal? Don't call me stupid, I don't know s*** about THESE cars. Any advice would be appreciated.

i know you said don't worry but here are my thoughts...

1. RX-7s just weren't meant to be automatics...they are definitely nowhere near as fun to drive
2. Friends don't let friends buy Bose

I would just save your money and look for another one...just my opinion though

8,000 for a good condition 3rd gen RX-7, automatic or not, is a really good deal. The biggest sticking points for me would be the following;

1) paint matching - how bad are we talking and who did the repaint?
2) how has the car been driven? many mazda mechanics I have talked to have said that you want to drive a rotary engined car the way its been driven. Meaning if its been beat on, beat on it, if its been babied, continue to baby it, etc etc. Whatever truth there is to this, I don't know. This is the consensus among the few Mazda Master Techs I have talked to.
3) don't get too worked up over the Bose Premium Sound. Its more than likely from the factory like the Ford "mach 1" systems or the "bose" systems from the factory. Same paper coned speakers and low wattage head units.

the fact that it is bone stock and has been gone through is a good thing. the car is probably damn fast even for an automatic. i'd be interested to know who did the labor on replacing everything. something I have read from 3rd gen enthusiasts is that most Mazda dealers have no idea how to work on these cars and do more harm than good when doing so. These were not the most trouble free RX-7s mazda made by any means (insufficient cooling system, secondary turbocharger would fail, etc).

do a good bit of googling before buying, have it inspected by a shop with rotary knowledge and head over to nopistons.com
