Need help to change my alternator belt

Hello,

Newbie here. Can someone help me in changing my alternator belt? Do I need to take off the compressor belt first? Can I do it without going underneath the car? I have not changed anything in a car sine 1991. I'm basically getting started again.

Not sure what bolts to loosen to remove the compressor belt? (boom05)??

yea you have to take off both belts.....i recomend replacing both belts

on the ps pump you have to loosen the mounting bolt and then there is a long bolt that puts tension on it....loosen those and the belt comes off....same with the altinator

Thanks my friend. Also, the mounting bolt is the left bolt on top of the ps pump right? Thanks again.

the mounting bolt is the one between the pump and the block.....and the tension bolt is under the pump with the bolt head facing the grill....the alt has sorta the same setup to it

One more question, I think. The mounting bolt is the one that pivots?

it's the faceing the other way tho isnt it... or am I just crazy... it's been a while since I've changed mine...

and if youve never done it I sugest getting some degreaser on the bolts and nts before you break em like I did last time... I barely put any preasure on the tension bolt an it snaped in 2...

Thanks for telling me. I've been trying to loosen it since this morning. I'll see if I can find a degreaser. Can I use other than a degreaser like liquid dish soap to loosen it? Thanks friend!

go to a parts store and buy a can of pb blaster....it will be you best friend when you work on anything

ummmm....i guess that's only a problem if the can actually drank the beer(boom04)

naw he said his wife made him promise not to drink... he was a recovering alcohalic at the time... it, was a time in his life but with the help of his friends, Armorall, and Goo Gone, and WD40 he pulled threw... lol

so searching for a "How-To" on the belts and none? Just lots of posts about how to do it.

I am gonna be attempting it either tonight or tomorrow on the wife's car.

Just trying to make sure i get it right

I can't release the serpentine belt tension! The short bolt that keeps the power steering compressor in position along that arc WILL NOT BUDGE. I've had my father and a mechanic also try it (and I'm no 98-lb weakling). It won't move. Any ideas? Already drenched it with PB blaster, twice.

Alternator belt is the issue- belt was slipping, and must have been going on for some time, since when I copped a feel it was all cracked and many pieces missing. I have the new belt, but cannot begin the project for the reason stated above.

Thanks a lot in advance--
Brian

did you loosen the 12mm head bolt at the top and the 14mm head bolt at the bottom of the alternator?
