Need help regarding infotainment system

Hi Everyone,

I bought a used 2016 CX-5 Grand Touring a few months ago. Fast forward, my infotainment system is now blacked out/dead. The dealership charged me $140 to have it diagnose, which I payed. 15 minutes later I was told that I needed a new one. Since the warranty was up they quoted me $2,400. I was already pretty annoyed losing $140 in less than 15 minutes, so I told them that I'll think about it. I then went to BestBuy and picked the system that I wanted, but was told that there's no kit for my model, so they couldn't do it. I'm not sure what else to do next... could I try finding a used(OEM) one and plug it in, I mean plug and play? Dealership made it sound like every system is unique to the car. Anyways, thanks for reading, hopefully you guys can help me out!

Sorry to hear, that sounds steep based on the other threads. Get the detailed report from the dealer and shop around. Never heard of anyone successfully replacing the unit.

CMU is the other keyword you can search for here:

I would just get another from a recycler or seller on ebay, craigslist, etc.

I've also been looking into the Belsee android unit. It claims to work with Mazda stock functions. What do you guys think of this?

I would be interested to see that do you have a link?

Here it is. Let me know what everyone think.

I'd be careful with that chinese stuff.
You'd be better off looking for a unit from a salvage yard.

I would as sure as HELL go back to that dealer and have them refund you a whole bunch of that $140. If they only spent 15mins, there sure as hell didn't 'diagnose' anything. If you don't get any joy from the dealer, call Mazda corporate and complain to them.

yea, buying a new/used, or any type of head unit is last resort. I will definitely call tomorrow. I would also like to know if there's anyone using these android units. Just curious to see how good they are.

Just checked LKQ online and there really aren't any Nav headunits I saw for sale. Unfortunately, these units are massively overpriced, especially at retail price.

They don't call it the stealership for nothing.

I think aftermarket might be the best solution if you can find a good one compatible with Apple Carplay/Android Auto.

Yea, the belsee does car play and it can also mirror, which I like. Seems like the 2016 model is nonexistent when it comes to OEM/aftermarket parts....

I would speak with the general manager of the dealership. $140 for their simple diagnosis is outrageous! And $2,400 to replace the factory infotainment system is off the charts.

I'd take your car and get a second opinion, who knows, it could just be a blown fuse?

Go here and enter your vehicle info and see what you come up with.

I just did it for my CX and there are several quality choices available.

Yea I checked the fuse and its still good. Just called Mazda Corp. and to sum it up i have to pay for it. Sucks! I guess ill have to buy aftermarket. What would you guys recommend?

Check eBay....junkyards etc. Maybe someone can add to this but you may be able to expand a search to also a Mazda 6/ CX9/ CX3 etc. I would guess they all use the same CMU core.....unless its integrated into the screen itself.

Last resort try to price out a replacement from Tasca mazda parts.....you might save a bit off retail price. I was under the impression a new factory CMU was closer to $1200. 2400 is ludicrous.

This is the model I have. So far they keep showing the older unit. Does the older version and this one have the same connection?

What would we recommend?

Did you not see my link for Crutchfield?

Have to you tired resetting the system? Check youtube. There's a three button sequence that resets the entire system to factory defaults. It probably won't help your case but it can't hurt and it's free.
