Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone out there could help me find a decent snow tire for my 02 p5? I have two sets of rims for options, but the cheapest I can find is $165 a tire at a local dealer! I have the original 16" rim that came with my p5 and I also have 17" mazda 3 snowflake rims. I want strictly snow tires for either set of rims because I have "summer" rims & tires already. Please help!

Find a cheap set of 15" steel rims and get some blizzaks. 2 for me was $210 at a local shop.

You'll want to make sure they're around +42mm offset and have the 5x114.3 bolt pattern. I lucked out and found 4 nearly new Dunlop Graspics mounted on 15 inch alloys for $325. Best money I've spent on my car, makes driving in the snow much easier and safer.

I'm using the 16" stockers as my winter setup and 17" MSP rims for my summers as well . Tirerack.com has 16" Blizzaks for 106.00 each. They can even ship them to an installer near you if you want. Usually I get stuff delivered by them in 2-3 days. I went for the 195-55 16's to get a little taller sidewall for winter since the car is lowered . Unfortunately, the 16" size has limited winter choices but I couldn't see buying a 3rd set of rims since the stock ones were sitting here.

Where are you located and what's the average snowfall?

If you live somewhere that gets some snow then I'd suggest keeping your 16's for winter use and searching for a better deal on tires. That price is crazy.

If you live somewhere that gets heavy snow then I'd suggest going with a 15" or 14" wheel/tire combo.

Check out 195/55/15, 195/50/15, 185/65/14 and 185/70/14 tire sizes. As someone else suggested a +42 or close is ideal offset for 15's while 14's are around +38.

And be sure to keep in mind the correct bolt pattern, 5x114.3/5x4.5 and our hubbore is 67.1mm. If you find a great deal on wheels, you could always get hubcentric rings.

Get the Bridgestone Blizzak's, Have 'em on My PR5 and it handles better on snow & Ice than my 4Runner with 4WD & traction control. Go to tirerack.com and they can set you up with a 15" wheel and the Blizzak's that fit your car. (Blizzaks are not made in the low profile size that is stock on the PR5) I did mine last year for less than $165 per wheel (that's wheels, tires, mounting, road hazard insurance, balancing and shipping).

If you have 4-wheel ABS make sure you put the same tire on all 4 corners. Otherwise it will mess up the ABS.
