Need help choosing, buying a new MSP

2003 Black Mazdaspeed
Ok, I think I'm going to buy a new MSP. My dealer is giving incredible deals on them right now. Here's the dillemma.

Lack of colors:

Right now my only color choices are:
-Black 03
-Orange 03
-Yellow 03.5
-Lighter Silver 03.5

The 03's are $500 cheaper. I prefer the wing on the 03's, but prefer the gunmetal rims on the 03.5

All of the cars are brand new (titled as brand new, around 20 miles).

I think the orange and yellow are too boy racerish for me. I'm 21, I'm a professional, everyone I work with is in their 30's. I don't want to further isolate myself by selecting a yellow car. Also, right now I drive a black Lexus LS400. The car is too big and boring for me, and I've always liked smaller 4 doors that handle better. I've owned a yellow 300zx TT, and that was cool, but it was a TT 300zx and yellow was a little more fitting. I also have had a supercharged Maxima.

What would you guys recommend for color and year? Remember the 03 is $500 cheaper. I tihnk I like the fog lights on the front of the 03 better then then the non-fog light fashia of the 03.5

Please help me make my decision, I can't do it on my own.

I also want to make the best decision for reselling the car. What color resells the best? I'm in TX and like the black but am concerned that black might not resell as well. I like the silver, but the 03.5 in the lighter silver doesn't look as sporty and sharp as some of the other colors.

I doubt there's too much difference for resale...you'll get flipped upsdie down any way you do it. I think the orange is the most limited color available, and it just looks spectacular. However...if you don't want to be noticed, black is the way to go. Believe me...no one notices the car, until they take a good look at it...then they think it looks real sharp.

I'm not a fan of the silver, because it just seems like it's missing something...the yellow doesn't look too bad with those, rims, though.

I would go for the black. You pretty much have already made up your mind anyways....
I mean really - count the number of times you stated "the 03 is $500 cheaper"
With the black you get the sleeker look, you get it cheaper, you get the fog lights, and you get the wing you like. As for the rims...well you can always get aftermarket!
As for resell. I really don't think that one will be better than the other. Pretty much it will be the same all the way around!

I agree, the silver does seem like it's missing something. It's like the lines aren't as sharp and it looks too plain.

I personally love the orange, but my g/f does not. The yellow is just too much for me.

Is there any difference other then mechanic on the 03 and 03.5

What's everyone's opinion on the way the two cars look?

What are the prices you are being offered on both 2003 and 2003.5 MSPs, if you don't mind me asking? Also, where are you located?

I'm just now trying to figure out what the market is for new MSPs before I approach dealers in the Seattle or Portland areas.

Thanks,
Gary

Brain V,

Have we met before? I was on Maxima.org and had the same screen name.

BTW, I think you should go w/ Black Mica.... it's the best (since you want the 03 spoiler)

black...

I have the black, but would like to think I'm unbiased... I'm 41, professional/manager/department head, but boy racer underneath... the black does get noticed but in the right way. I like the '03.5 rims too but for $500 you can have the 2003's dismounted, powdercoated whatever color you want, and remounted and still put a little money in the bank. The '03's also have the Sparco knob/pedals rather than the Mazdaspeed ones - both are nice IMHO (that said, I sold my knob and bought the one pictured in the attachment - I prefer a "roundie")

Silver, likewise, is a "blend in" color that still gets its share of looks. Would agree that the titanium blends the good aspects of silver and black, but without the fogs and with the '03.5 wing - and without the availability at your dealer, it would seem.

Orange and Yellow look great, I'm a BIG yellow fan but would agree that it may not age well and would, well, perhaps not give you the professional, understated look you're going for. It also attracts unwanted attention like fleas.

My vote is for black.

Your name doesn't ring a bell, but I am BrianV from maxima.org, the infamous BrianV. One of the first to blow an engine, one of the first with red/clears, and the first to custom adapt an intake.

My serious modding days are over. I just want a cheap economical car that's safe, fun to drive, and has decent power. With a 50k mile warranty, and at 16k the MSP seems to fit the bill.

Ping, your answer has helped me greatly.

Brian,

Thanks for the price info. Wow, that's at least $1K less than I was hoping. No wonder all these MP3s are languishing on the market (with their owners probably hoping to get out of them and jump to a new MSP) for $13K+. Even if it was a 2003 MP3 (I know there is no such thing) rather than an MSP with the turbo, it would still be a good deal.

I have the Titanium color and I love my car. I like both spoilers to be honest. Like the rims on the 3.5 better. I took the sparco shifter from an 03 on the lot, cuz I didnt like the Mazdaspeed one. Pedals don't make a whole lot of difference. Would like to have fog lights but like the front of the 3.5 better.

One thing I do like about the 3.5 is the yellow stiching in the seats, steering wheel, and shifter. Just gives it a nice touch

Yellow stiching is real cool on the yellow MSP's, but I think I could live without it on any other color.

I like the fog lights, but wish they were a tad bit smaller.

I like that the black ones (and probably the silver and titaniums as well often get mistaken for Lexus 300's... I think I need Altezzas and some little extra round red lights on the trunk! You can also get some blackout tape (under $4 at WalMart) to temporarily black out the Mazda logo in the grille for a custom touch - takes some time and an Exacto but it's neat.

Talk to your dealer about installing a cruise control - it's really the only thing this car lacks. Except perhaps a sunroof. You'll have to go aftermarket for the cruise but they're out there (do a search).

Glad I could help, now back to my regularly scheduled workload.

I vote for the orange. Simply put; you will see black proteges, black protege5s and on top of that, black mazdaspeed proteges. you will see one and only orange mazda.

Well Brian

I bought the V2 for my maxima, and I was 1 week from installing it. I decided to buy this instead. I love it. It handles great, it looks great and I am pleased. So come on board brother :D

New Info.

My dealer just called and informed me the electron blue 03.5 is available. What do you guys think about this one? I'm still partial on the black one at this point. What about the blue?

I think you should get silver because it's the rarest color, but black is nice too.

Or you can just paint it. I know I said Silver & Black, but doesn't seeing this pic just make you want a Titanium? :p

littleman, sounds like I am.

I was just so torn by the colors I couldn't make a decision. You have to admit $15995 for a brand new car that has this much stuff on it is incredible.
