what ever is stock on a mazda 3 works fine.

I would stand behind +45 for 7" on 205s
and +48 for 7.5" on 215s

anything less and you risk rubbing...not 100% sure you'll rub, but very likely...It really depends mostly on the brand/type of tire you run...some are a couple mm wider/thinner...

In defense of the OP, I had a hard time with Rishie's wording in the 17" category. I think it could be made a little more clear by wording it similar to what ProtoType5 said above. Looking at it now, after doing a ton of research, it all makes sense. However, I would have been happy with just a nice straightforward answer.

Someone posted this link some time ago and I've found it really useful to give me a better understanding of what's going on based on the wheel size, offset and tire size I choose.

I also think that rolling your fenders isn't a bad idea no matter what you get just to play it safe. It's easy to do and can't be seen unless you've got your head under there.

IIRC, 45-48 offset on 17s, or was it 42-45? Pretty sure 45 is good. Tire size selection may vary based on exact offset rims are for no rubbage.

i can't remember, but me thinks mine are 205/45/r17, only rubs when I've got the car fully loaded and going over speed bumps.

I'm on Tanabe DF210 springs w/ 17x7.5 +48; 215/40's and mine rubbed until I rolled the rear fenders.... Now no rub at all. I would say this is perfect because you get the most width, and sticks the furthest out you can go... without running lots of negative camber.
