need exhaust help

I have 03 protege and bought it with a custom 3inch exhaust it has magnaflow parts but is all custom made up to the cat then stock as i like the sound it makes looks amazing on the car i want to go catless to make more power as im hopeing to get my car in 230whp. so my question is what do i need to buy for the best hp i can get a apex down pipe but still the s part look very restrictive so what part do need.

thanks for all your help and please don't trash my thread by telling me to search as every thread ive seen is that way.

you can get the s-pipe from cork sport. its only 2.4in, but its still ALOT better then the stock one.

get the GHL full turboback 3" downpipe, best downpipe on the market, do it right the first time! Check it out on SU.

You can get the vibrant exhaust. Its J pipe back but 3 ins. I have only heard great things about this exhaust and I will be running it within the next couple months. Plus it will save you about 300 bucks over the GHL

he's looking for only a downpipe guys, and i'm sorry but the ghl is the best exhaust system for the msp hands down, there is no comparison, yes the vibrant is the 2nd best

Does cork sport still make the S/J pipes? It's a big upgrade from stock but they do break or at least used to. The stock S pipe sucks, I could barely fit my finger through there.

k may plan is to buy corsport s pipe and apex downpipe i found a used one for cheap so will the downpipe bolt to corksport s pipe.

thanks for all help.

sorry but the CS spipe isn't a huge gain over the stocker. Plus it is going to break on you. I don't have anything against CS personally, but I will not buy anything that they welded again. Changing out this spipe is one of those jobs you only want to do once. If you want a good gain, either do the GHL DP or send your stocker to Extrude Hone, that'll run you right about the $180 dollars that you would waste on the CS one. The CS pipe mated with my Vibrant didn't amount to squat.

thanks Velocifero for help did you have motor mounts and any one else have some problem with cs spipe.

no names off the top of my head, if you have a chance just search broken s-pipe and you should find a few. But other than that I know 2 msps and a p5 here locally that have had their other CS exhaust pipes fall apart, usually at the resonator, and one of these was with the revised versions. They just dont put enough material and heat into their welds IMHO. Their customer service is awsome though and they took good care of me when mine broke, I just didn't want to go through the install and possible de-install again, I sold the pipe off and put a electronic dump pipe where my cat was, never looked back as this made a lot more power. At a price though it is mad loud with it open, but turbo sounding goodness. Yeah I had filled mounts and a huge flex pipe on my exhaust.

ya ive had nothing but good stuff from cs and understand that sometimes they will make a bad product as every company will do as there only human but i search it and it sound like it does the job but they break (yupnope) and take 8h so don't plan on geting it what set up are you run velocitero you can pm it or if you have a thread on it that be great thanks for the help.

Yeah I didn't like the quality of the CS S pipe but I think it will make a bigger difference at higher flow. Like at high boost high RPM levels. It's a big difference compared to stock, it would be a nice piece if it didn't break so easily.

I have Vibrant's s-pipe back which is 2.5" for the first 8" than flares to 3" for the remainder. It originally came with a high flow cat, but I have removed the cat and put in a DMH Performance electronic cutout. I keep the silencer in the muffler pretty much always so it is a little on the quite side and when i want it loud I just open the dump. And when it is open I can feel a difference. When I was changing the broken s-pipe back to stock, I wish I had time to send it off to extrude hone but I couldn't afford the time down. I actually reinstalled my stocker at about 11 oclock at night and took me til about 3:30A, but I had to cut off my power steering belt to allow me to move the PS pump, it was easier that way though, I just couldn't get the tensioner loose so I had to cut. I am toying with the idea of turning my turbo 180* so the exhaust turbine is on the driver's side. ATP Turbo sells v-band flanges that can couple with our GT25, that would make working around the exhaust so much easier and I can build a DP that is pretty much straighter than the GHL. It isn't too complicated of a plan, just would take some extra fabricating, gotta make a new hot pipe and a simple intake as well as the DP. It is a bit of a way off, probably once the car is not my daily driver.

I havent seen any proof of it being better than stock, if it is then it is probably around 4 HP. The problem is in design not really the ID. the curves of it are whats restricting and then with the CS pipe there are step ledges on the inside from where they welded 4-5 pipes together, if it was smooth then it would be a little better. The GHL one goes almost straight down, that is why it is such a nice piece. When I first got my CS pipe I thought it was really nice, then put it on and was disappointed, then even more disappointed with how quickly it broke and I had to go through that install again. Not to mention that it sheered at about two inches off the turbo and I had that slightly hot air blowing straight down from the turbo. It melted the hell out of my splash gaurd, like I mean the thing looks like it was made of candle wax the way it started to "drip" apart, it also baked my turbo oil return hose and created a leak there. I still have to deal with that issue, I put another hose there but I think it was too soft because the couplings have cut into the hose.
