Need definative answer on removing items under the hood

yeah if the paint starts to bubble or fade and it is still under warranty...throw that s*** on there and give the dealership a(dunno) (dunno)

hey matt...

that fiberglass thing is definitely there as a safety measure. if your engine catches fire, the fire will melt the adhesive that's on the fiberglass. the fiberglass then falls onto the engine, effectively snuffing the fire.

it's not 100% effective, but it's there for a good reason. i wouldn't remove it. it might give you that extra 15-30 seconds to get the hell out of dodge before the fire reaches the fuel pump... and KAAABLOOOOEEEEEE. so yeah... take the weather stripping off to your heart's content... but leave the underhood on.

edit: i meant fuel lines. not fuel pump. i'm a dumbass.

you never know... whodathunkit that the focus engines would catch fire cause of faulty battery lines?

it's like airbags... when the hell are they ever gonna go off? when s*** happens.

hmm....how effective can that crap be? youre still gonna be getting tons of air regardless under the hood unless it spontaneously catches fire while youre idling in the parking lot?

i don't know how effective it can be. the concept is there. i can't tell you it's 80% effective when you are going 30mph and only 20% effective when you are going 75. but what i can tell you is that if your engine does catch fire, it usually shuts down. then you stop your car and say... wtf is going on? then you see the smoke come up from the engine bay. if the thing works, it will fall onto the engine and suffocate the engine from the top. air still will get in through the bottom, but if the flames aren't allowed an upwards path, it will more than likely lose some of its intensity.

removing it or not is ultimately up to you. the chances of your engine catching fire are almost zero, so it won't be that big a deal. personally though, i wouldn't do it.
